In a video he posted in July 2025, Presley Gerber described the question people kept asking him: "You were such a happy kid; what happened to you?" On Sunday 20 September 2026, the 27-year-old son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber died at a sober-living residence in Santa Monica. According to a law-enforcement source who spoke to NBC News, he had checked in the night before. Police are investigating a suspected overdose and say there is no indication of foul play. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has deferred both the cause and the manner of death.

Since then the internet has filled with answers: a "hidden room", the "real cause revealed", criminal charges on the way. This case file takes the questions people are actually asking, one at a time: what happened that morning, what kind of place the house was, why he was there, how he died, and whether anyone will be charged. It answers each one only with what's on the record, separating what's confirmed from what's only been reported by unnamed sources, and from what's simply been made up.

Where the case stands (27 September 2026): the Medical Examiner's only statement (21 Sep, case 2026-14977) says the cause and manner of death have been deferred pending further testing, which can take a few months. The Santa Monica Police Department describes its investigation as preliminary and says it would be premature to speculate about charges or responsibility on the part of any individual or facility. No one has been accused of wrongdoing. Nothing in this video states or implies a cause of death.
