what teller said to david 'i have another brass knuckle in my other pocket so you better give us the win pal'

The whole show was the misdirection.  Everyone missed the bigger trick; the long con; the fact that David hasn’t aged since I saw him in the 80’s.

What Teller whispered to Copperfield: "Let the wookie win."

When I was a child, my father took me to see Copperfield perform. It was the only time I saw my father light up like a child. He was so taken back watching this man perform in front of us! Years later, when I told my father I wanted to be a chef he didn’t think very highly of my career choice, but a week before he had passed, he had a change of heart from watching Hells Kitchen. 15 years pass and my first gig as a Chef in Hawaii was cooking in front of Copperfield, on the beach with his girlfriend. He had a ton of allergies and preferences, but instead of being annoyed, I embraced the challenge! He commented on how nice it was to watch me cook (perform) in front of him. I’m sure a lot of chefs go basic because of his preferences, so I could tell he appreciated it very much! The cherry on top was him commenting on my wedding band, which was a magicians ring I inherited after my father had passed❤ I know my pops was looking down, knowing that my passion for food is what had gotten me there!

Impressively awkward shuffle by the greatest magician in the world

The first thing you have to notice is that David Copperfield is a hologram from 1985.

"Dave, what are your thoughts, did we fool you? Dave? Dave?"

He raises his head, it's actually Alyson

Penn looks at Alyson, who he has been holding for a few seconds afraid of fainting... its Dave Copperfield!

I love how they have to talk in magicians code 😂

The real magic trick is the friends we make along the way...

I think there are two possible way to perform this trick.

The first method: the top card is a key card a little smaller than the others. When David select the four of spades he put that card on top of it, then he shuffle multiple times and cut. The probability that the two cards stay together is quite high. When teller turn his back on the camera he find immediately the key card and cut the deck there keeping the 4th of spade on top, then put in the pocket and extract 11 cards from the bottom and the four of spades from the top.
This method is a bit risky because the key card and the selected card can separate during the riffle, but also because Teller has to watch the card once in order to know how much David will count when he will extract from the pocket. Also, this is the method that David was thinking that is why he was talking about keys and he inspected the deck afterward without finding the key card.

The second method: the deck is marked on the back and in a established sequence. David can select any card but following the instructions of Penn when he put back the remaining cards on the top of the deck they can see which card was before the selected one by the mark on the deck. At that point the rest of the game is very easy, David can shuffle as much as he wants, and the only problem is that Teller has to extract the four of spades when he ask David to inspect the pocket. This method is safer, but of course inspecting the deck David could have seen the marking method but is less evident than a key card.

In a plot twist, after the show, Copperfield made Penn And Teller’s trophy disappear.

Saw copperfield in Chicago, it was the shortest show I ever saw. Until i looked at my watch and realized i had been enthralled forever!

I miss David Copperfield and the big hour long specials he would have on TV. You would have your hand on the screen trying to guess how to stump him and you never did. It was awesome.

Penn: welcome to stage the world's greatest living magician!

Teller: { does he think I'm dead? }

I love Penn, I love how chatty he is, his stage presence is amazing ❤

Everything about this show feels so classic and contained. Getting a WB star to host a CW show all shot in vegas and the format never changes yet the content still surprises. Penn & Teller being on a smaller network yet having the star power to pull guys like Copperfield, it's all such efficient entertainment with great decision making by the producers.

In the movie The Prestige in which Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman play magicians they say that a magic trick has three steps. the steps are the called "the pledge, the key, and the prestige" and I have also heard that these three parts can be sometimes be rearranged. I think David C was trying to say that the 'key' happened earlier than it is made to be seen. I think that is what he was trying to say.

I laughed so hard at 3:57 when Penn gave his hand for a shake to Copperfield he ignored him and just yeeted to take a seat 🤣

when Teller showed his pocket with brass knuckles to the stage, a deck swap of the same order of cards already happened in his back.

The real magic trick is that David Copperfield hasn't aged in 40 years.
