All these years... decades, now...later and I still tear up. Losing these two, several other cast members, and Mr. Rogers hurts deeply. For those of us who didn't have good childhoods, these were our friends. They taught us to love and care even during difficult times. They are all dearly missed.
How brave it was of Carroll, to not only sing a song that's so synonamous with Jim Henson, but to also don the costume of Big Bird for Jim at the funeral. Still hreatbreaking to watch all these years later. Godspeed Jim, and thank you.
God, it's that final shot that kills me. The big wide view of the stage, Big Bird standing up there all alone in utter silence, and then turning and walking off the stage. Devastating.
I thought it would hurt less now that I'm in my 40's but somehow it hurts so much worse. These characters became the non-judgmental friends that I wanted & needed so bad in my very difficult childhood. I miss Jim & Mr. Rogers and the legacy they left behind was absolutely wonderful!
Hearing Carrol Spinneys voice quiver and his first inhale is the feeling of a lost loved friend that is heard and grabs at your heart and soul. The visuals are even more heartbreaking You forget that Big Bird is just a puppet with a man giving tribute to his friend.
