Karl talks so much shit in this episode, and then comes out with 'not my hands either', one of the quickest and best comebacks I've ever heard.

i love this episode. Karl basically found the split between controlled and automatic processes in the brain. he identifies the controlled part as "himself" and the automatic part as "his brain" and I feel like most people unconsciously do this anyway, at least to some level

that being said, listening to the way he's describing it just leaves me in stitches. he's such a precious human lmao

Ricky is one of those friends who’s smart enough to understand the concept but isn’t smart enough to explain it to someone who doesn’t already understand it. That’s exemplified in this episode like you said.

"It's had its eye in things, and it knows more now" I love how Karl's mind works and thinks animals are trying to be people. 😂

The venomous frog was a perfect example of how Karl's brain works (or doesn't work). He hears a frog has enough venom to kill 1,000 people➡Karl 's brain➡there's a frog going crazy killing a lot of people. Onion!

I just turned 50, and I still regularly skateboard. Skateboarding keeps me young, healthy and happy . People who put restrictions on themselves because of a number age poorly.

26:53 that is an actual example of Ricky actually getting it wrong and trying to make Karl look dumb. He says does the moon moves? In this context he means does it revolve on it's own axis and ricky says "yes" But he is wrong the moon is tidally locked to the earth this means we always see the same face from our perspective. So technically if you put a mirror on the moon you would always be able to see it. In fact I'm surprised he doesn't know we have in fact put a "mirror" in the moon. Not meant to look into it, its called a retroreflector, designed to reflect a beam of light back to it's exact source by means of mirrors and precise geometry, you can if you really want get a really powerful laser and a precise detector point it to the known locations of this retroreflectors and shoot a beam of light to it, after about 2.6s you could detect the laser beam bouncing back. (one of the many ways you can debunk the moonlanding conspiracy btw) but yeah Karl is kind of right but he has no idea.

Mandy: " Even got some shrubbery too " 😂
Such fun! Thanks Mandy.

Your point about things being socially "unacceptable" as adults, such as going on the swings, is identical to a sketch by Scottish comedian Limmy. Who I highly recommend. Much of his stuff, including this sketch (which is very poignant as well as comedic) is available on YouTube - "Limmys Show" is a good starting point. [Edit] And I entirely agree. I love going to the local bowling alley/arcade on a night out, in my late 30s. It's also got a liquor licence, which helps :p

Your double dose of Idiot Abroad followed by The Ricky Gervais Show the next day is so great.  This has been a weekend highlight for me as I'm trying to get my sleep patterns back on track.
I totally agree with you when you talked about doing what you want even though you think you're too old for it.  You're completely right of course.  If you like something, your age shouldn't even be a factor unless your physically or otherwise incapable of doing it.

Surely Ricky knows that a chameleon changes its colour based on mood, not it's surroundings.  Which is why it can do it if it was blind. A cuttlefish can change colour to match it's surroundings, but it's a myth that chameleons do.
I remember once when Ricky said that monkey's don't have opposable thumbs.  How did he get that so wrong?  How does he think they hold bananas etc?  :)

And yeah Karl should not own a pet.  Your expressions through the cat and dog stories were pretty much what I was thinking, too.  Poor dog and cat :(

Anyway Mandy, stay happy, stay in the moment and stay safe :)

I need a good dose of Mandy happiness today 😊

The best way to wind up the day, no doubt this episode will have me in tears

Enjoyed watching Mandy weighing up the philosophical implications of Karl's worldview! My take on the Onion episode - It was appealing, and no matter how you slice and dice it, Karl's multi-layered undercutting of Ricky had me in tears.

They aren't my hands either, damn 😂😂

I am so with you in regards to the age thing! It drives me mad!
I have a job, I have friends, I socialise, I go to the gym, and people have nothing to say about that. But I also love and play video games, and suddenly people are like, "Video games? Aren't they for kids?", or the worst one: "I don't know how you have time to play video games..."... like these same people don't get home from work and watch Netflix for 3 hours lol.

Anyway, your sentiment of "just have fun!" is exactly how it should be. Life's too short to think any other way!

Karl is always onto something if only he could get his point across. In the case of the brain, it’s even been shown that ‘something’ fires in the brain a fraction of a second before we make a decision, so the idea of a meta brain or even more subconscious thought is not ridiculous. You realise that Karl really does have nebulous thoughts; he just can’t explain them

This is the one we've been waiting for

This was brilliant x

Excellent Mandy ☺

Brain, ONION!?!

That bit always makes me laugh!
