This has got to be the greatest Kayfabe thumbnail image of all time.

7:15 Man... How can you guys not even acknowledge the freaky flesh-colored Bart Simpson? lol

Imagine Todd coloring Trencher.

My eyes! My eyess!!!

The diversity on this channel is aces!

"Hypno-Love Wheel" was the name of Spider-Man assistant editor Dan Cuddy's band at the time.

todd mcfarlane is a source of much inspiration.....hard work does payoff

It's interesting I noticed, even back when I was a teen, that one of the predominate colors in Spawn is white. I never knew Todd colored a comic, so this is fascinating. And I see the same use of white showing up here too.

This is one of the few comics I kept from when I was a kid. It was my first introduction to McFarlane and I was obsessed with the details. I still like it even if the coloring was a train wreck. Nice to see it again.

Pure psychedelia.

Remember that printing ink is transparent. If you have a 100% k black line art separation then put color on top of that you will get richer black where the color lands. I recommend a kicker black for line art 100%k 20%c 20%m 20%y. This will hide all of the transparency.  Having different builds of black was so off putting back in this era. I recommend 100%k black for text though. This is for registration purposes. You want to be able to read the text and if there are 3 other separations shifted all over the place under type it gets hard to read it without giving yourself a headache.

Classic,  90s 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯👀👏👏👏

My first Toddie Mac book. 🥰

I just been rereading this run as of the last week or so and it was dope to catch this video today!

The coloring on this is astounding (without qualification of good/bad, lol) and I remember reading it when it came out, as like a ten year old, and not knowing what the hell was going on with the color but also not really understanding anything about color to be able to vocalize it.

Reading this issue the other day, I still didn't have the technical terms for what was going on, but I could tell the coloring was pretty funky and I wasn't surprised to see that Todd McFarlane had colored the issue, lol.

Thanks for doing this analysis, though, for real, because it finally explains my feelings on this issue, lol; though I will always have a soft spot for Todd's run on this book for how it showed me that the mainstream comics weren't all getting corny, hahaha.

You can see that Gregory Wright tried his hand on some of these wilder choices starting with #6 (issue 5 was similar to his first three, so I imagine that he might not have seen Todd's take yet). It's not even close, of course, but it's clearly different from the stuff he was doing before, specially in aplying some of these less common colors and in how he treats highlights. You can see all of these very clarly on the title spread in #6. But he kinda drops it pretty quickly. After a couple of issues or so, things mostly go back to business as usual.

I remember this issue making me feel so uncomfortable when I was a kid solely based on how messy it is

Really dying to see you guys look at the Caricature book from Dan Clowes. I am also loving the Surplus of videos we’ve been getting so frequently makes my day every time

6:07 Separation thing is easy. You can cut film or just use anything opaque that will simulate the film and brush or draw it on. It just needs to block the light when its exposed.

This was awesome. I wish this kind of thing still happened in comics.
