Emigrating to Gran Canaria – a dream for many. But what does it feel like to actually make that dream a reality? In this video, I meet Regula. She comes from Switzerland and has been living in Patalavaca in southern Gran Canaria with her partner and their dog, Sparky, since December 2025.
We talk about why she decided to start a new life on the island, how her family and friends reacted, and what her everyday life on Gran Canaria is like today.
Of course, we also take a look at her small but charming bungalow with its breathtaking sea view and discuss the development of real estate prices on Gran Canaria.
Afterward, we continue on to Arguineguín. During a short walk along the new promenade and Playa Perchel, Regula tells us about her career plans: After about ten years of experience in Switzerland, she wants to work in the field of daily care for seniors on Gran Canaria.
We also discuss many practical questions about emigrating: housing and real estate on Gran Canaria, NIE (Spanish tax identification number), residency and registration, cost of living compared to Switzerland, health insurance, making new friends and leisure activities on the island, starting a new career on Gran Canaria, as well as anxieties, expectations, and challenges of emigrating.

Auch wenn für mich selbst ein Auswandern nicht in Frage kommt schaue ich mir gerne andere Lebensentwürfe an.

Was die nette Lady betrifft, finde ich ihre Auswanderung etwas abenteuerlich. Hoffe für sie das sich ihre Vorstellungen und Wünsche erfüllen. LG aus Ulm. 😊😊
Regular ist zweifellos eine liebenswerte Frau, der ich viel Erfolg wünsche, jedoch meine Bedenken bezüglich ihrer angestrebten Tätigkeit habe. Ich glaube nicht, dass das auf GC funktionieren wird. Die Akquise, um ein vernünftiges Einkommen zu erzielen, wird schwierig sein. Da wird der Handyman wohl gefordert sein. Dann könnte es funktionieren.
Sollte ich mich täuschen, würde es mich für sie freuen.
Das Appartement allerdings , so groß die Terrasse auch sein mag und der Ausblick wunderbar ist, wäre mir für zwei Personen einfach zu klein, da könnte ich nicht atmen.
