Julie Delarme was sensational in how she expresses the character with gestures and not so much in words.

I don't know why or how. But I like this kind of movie so much. The longingness, the ache, and the pleasure of seeing someone you love every day without doing much to it, is something else. These types of movies do not have an ideal happy ending. But the process itself is so beautiful that even tho it hurts, I watch it again and again. The innocence in the way they express their love is too much !!

I enjoy WWII films that plainly show how there were good people all over. Good people in hard spots. Some good people that were forced to do horrible things and it destroyed them. Others found a way to go on. Still more found redemption eventually. The cruelty of the war lasted for so long. Nuremberg trials. Axis soldiers in Soviet Siberian gulags. German teenagers forced to clear mines in Denmark. And those Japanese guys who fought the war for 40-some years. They thought the war was still going on. The last guy refused to surrender until his commanding officer came and relieved him. What dedication.

The young male actor reminds me of a young Laurence Olivier. Very handsome.

There is the full story on a video. The story was called Le Silence de la Mer (The Silence of the Sea).

this reminds me so much of my father (1921- 2011). He hated Hitler, yet had to join that dirty war. As it was no choice for those young men. Luckily they took him to Greece, his dream-land. As he always had loved the saga of Odysseus so deeply. He did everything he could to make friendship with the natives. Always behaving kind and politely. Fortunately enough, he had never to gunshoot or arrest anyone. As his only job was that of a translator from Greek to German for the Wehrmacht, as he was very talented in languages. Some of the friendships lasted a life-time, with mutual visits from Greece to Germany and the other way round. I miss him sooo much.
