We live in amazing times. One of my Grandfathers could only afford a farm truck and rarely got to travel. We get to ride and play with amazing machines. Thanks for sharing. I’ve never owned or ridden a VFR but I appreciate seeing your spectacular Honda.

Top class work mate and no tow truck required. Impressive!

Hey mate,
I've got the same bike, same year, same colour, and also live in SEQ. When i bought mine about a year ago now, it also ran terribly. I was pretty disappointed in it. I was determined to fix this beautiful bike, and i think ive got it as good as its going to get.
The first thing i did was remove the snorkel, disconnect the flapper, and disable the PAIR system. This is the popping sound you might hear when you initially roll on the throttle. This was a very big improvement to low speeds and significantly reduced any surging or shuddering when taking off at low RPM.
After that i still wasn't happy, so i got a mechanic to balance the starter valves. They seemingly weren't too out of sync, but this fix made the biggest improvement. It actually got me excited to ride it again!
The last thing that i recommend is to avoid going below 4000 RPM at all times. The bike just doesn't behave if you try to ride it below that. Its especially noticeable through traffic.
I would also recommend to keep an eye out on the starter solenoid. Ive melted 3 of them due to too much current going through a single spade connector. Just splice it into two, and use both connection points. This might involve removing the factory plug.

I hope these help you! - Mike

Hi there,
Really good video!!
Just want to share my experience - i have 2002 vfr with a similar running symptoms and i went similar path as you did-added injector cleaning to the fuel, replaced plugs, cleaned injectors - still no luck, then i replaced map sensor and that cured the issue for me.
Thanks

Thanks for sharing.
Had exactly the same bike loved it but had wrist pain etc after a couple if hours. Would lived to have kept it and bought another.
Ill send a pic of my tail tidy and Delkavic exhaust that i loved.

Good video.  You don't have to take off the fuel tank, just turn it 360 degrees and place it on where the seat was removed so the fuel uniopns aren't disturbed, access is still easy.. The velocity stacks on mine are rear left cylinder tall stack, rear right cylinder short stack, front left short stack, front right tall stack , it has aftermarket exhausts and I believe free flowing downpipes and collector box from the earlier model with no cat. Pick up is instant (as they should be) and revs throughout the full range, great bikes!

Replace lower fuel filter in tank and replace the plastic housing that has the FPR attached as it has microstrainer inside ,also use electrical cleaner spray can or brake cleaner as its much safer for your injectors ,if you had blocked injectors, fuel filter and top strainer will be nasty ,you have low fuel pressure that robs your injectors and they wont spray properly, the intank injector cleaner prob ckeaned the filters a lil bit .

Gorgeous bike mate, love the colour scheme 👌

Are you a mechanic, or just a tinkerer? You have a great idea of how it works and a high work standard. As I was tying you dropped the bolt. 😅

Change the pipes out for staytune
Sounds great and makes the engine  breathe easier also engine braking is much better

Do a full throttle pull from 1500 RPM in 4th gear if it buks and hesitates low fuel pressure from blockage in tank or FPR needs replacing also .

You might want to clean the fuel filter in the fuel pump as well

Excellent run through on  how to clean the injectors, thank you.  Definitely a change in the spray pattern. Did not see the air filter in the video. Did I miss a few frames, or was it jammed in the top of the air filter cover?  Loving mine now that I am adapting to the new beast. They prefer some revs through the gears for smoother running I believe. I am lucky I have a motorway 10 miles from here, so I could use some extended high rev throttle to put lots of fuel and injector cleaner through the system . Seems to have cleared her tubes.

Love your videos. Just over a years ago, i sold my vfr st 1200 with dct, a great bike. Three weeks ago, i sold my 1997 st 1100. Again a fantastic bike. But just getting a bit heavy for me. 74 years young. Left now with my nc750 x.. love your videos. Please keep putting them out. Cheers

Looks great weather there. Dont you just hate it when a bolt falls down, at least not into the engine !

Any idea about the size of the Banjo bolt for the fuel tank, is it m10x1mm or m12

Run those injectors through an ultrasonic cleaner, then balance the throttle bodies to even it out even further. You'll find it'll run so smooth that you'll think you're riding a brand new bike.

Christ all bloody might, it's gone into the valley of doom.
I actually spat my coffee out. 😂😂

NEVER SPRAY THROTTLE BODY CLEANER ON HONDA THROTTLE BODIES!!! there is a film that will be eaten away and never return effecting things. was given this warning from an engine nut before i started this procedure, and now im passing the warning onto you, its only the manifold/intake etc, not the injectors to worry about..... TBH i doubt the v-tek is a worry as honda skimmed off everything they could and rode on the good name of the OG 800fi :)

Hows the vfr going now
