Anybody else looking to learn how to wrap their bike they don’t have yet lol

"average biker who wants to change the appearance of their bike for a reasonable cost". That's literally why I always wrap my bike instead of paint it 🤣

Some extra tips from some one who does have more experience.
1) Exacto knives are your friend
2) So that you don't scratch the finish on the vinyl, make sure your squeegee has one side that includes a felt liner
3) The thinner the vinyl, the more flexible. It may cost more on your wallet, but less on your time.
4) The harbor freight heat gun works just as well as the more expensive one.

Great job for beginners. ✅PRO TIP: pieces were you used heat should be post heated afterwards. This means heating the warped pieces to about 212 degrees F (100 degrees C). The perfect tempurature differs from brand to brand so be sure to check a technical sheet to know the sweet spot. You can check the tempurature with a laser meter but a simple way to know if its heated sufficiently is to keep heating and applying pressure until you see the underlying glue pattern. This will mean you effectively break the memory function and fully break the glue lines that the vinyl has. For Avery this is a honey comb pattern, for 3M its a normal checkerdboard pattern.

I do stuff like this for a living, and I do my own bike as well (as 2008 Nightster Sportster)

One tip if you're using cutting tape and depending on the intended design, is to use it to cut through both layers to avoid overlapping..

If done correctly (and it can be a bit tricky) it will leave you with a smooth surface as both pieces will be cut exactly where they meet each other..

Of course, you can still see the seams if you look closer, but this can be concealed with a stripe of something like textured carbon fibre vinyl - it being textured and then placed over the seam tends to completely make the seams disappear even if there's some tiny gaps here and there.. Flat vinyl will more easily show what is happening underneath.

When I do this I make a thin stripe, maybe 5mm or 10mm and use it as part of the overall design.

You can experiment with this if you have some leftover vinyl by placing the cutting tape directly on the tank or whatever and then wrap two pieces of vinyl over it so they just overlap the tape with maybe a couple of inches from each side..

Then as you pull the tape it should leave edges that meet each other..

But yeah it can be a bit tricky since cutting tape is a bit hit or miss in my experience, it may not attach perfectly or move around a bit so it doesn't cut exactly where you want.

I've watched dozens of videos about wrapping, and yours is by far my favorite. Thank you for making this

Yeah, tried this on the plastics on the back, broke it in rage, so for me not that cheap, trying a anger management course before trying the other side👍 thanks bro!

Super humbling experience. The fact that I decided to wrap my Ducati is mind blowing, curviest bike known to man it’s so hard to get the insides 😂

You did a great job explaining this, and made it approachable to so many. Now we are all going to be in our garage just thinking about possible design choices.

Not a bad job, I've done plenty of wrapping (I'm a signwriter) you could have mentioned "post heating" the vinyl to lock on the shape you're wrapped. Well done :)

I never really considered doing that to my bike. Now you have me thinking.

I’m glad I decided to watch a video before wrapping my bike. In my mind I was planning on sanding down the fairings I wanted to wrap 😭

This literally boosted my confidence by a lot thank you man

Thanks for the tutorial.  Thanks for showing how the cutting tape is used, which nobody else seems to show.  I appreciate the information for wrapping smaller items or sections of a vehicle.  I would probably never attempt a full vehicle wrap or even a hood, but wrapping is an excellent option for small feature pieces.  I had two color painted pillars on my SUV that separate between glossy black tinted window panels.  Wrapping the pillars in a gloss black vinyl looks very similar to the glass and gives the vehicle a "floating roof effect", now that the glass looks like it wraps around the back of the vehicle.  I also had gloss black painted pillars between the glass of the front and back doors and on the driver side there was a small dent/dimple, which was very shallow, but just enough to catch the light to accent the dent.  Filling the dent with spot putty was adequate to fill the dimple and wrapping over it made the dimple completely disappear without having to do bodywork and paint.  The passenger side was also wrapped to match.  The possible uses for wrap for vehicles and other items or equipment is only limited by the imagination.

Wear nitryl gloves so you don't put more grease on the part after you washed it too

You definitely could have covered that first piece in one vinyl sheet. Just heat the vinyl up and stretch it way more than you are. By pulling it you can expand it in certain areas, allowing you to put it into concave spots

I'm watching this and similar videos because I've contacted two shops already and they just will not bother to call back, even to say "F off" - so I will figure it out and do it myself

The rear panel should be able to be wrapped with a single piece of vinyl, learning to stretch/shrink vinyl is tricky though ;-)

Thank you for the lesson and that Cutting tape is Awesome 👍👍

Pretty good vid. The only thing I would say differently would be. The part about doing it in pieces. I always try to do whatever i'm wrapping in one piece. Like on the fender, I could maybe see doing the horns separately. But the cool thing about vinyl is when you hit it with heat it will p much do whatever you want. Most of the time just rubbing it with your fingers will do the job. I try to use the heat gun as little as possible, till the end. It's a lot more work, but it looks better and is a lot easier to take care of after the fact. You don't have to worry about the seams too much if you say take it for a wash.
