TRIBUNJAKARTA.COM - A wave of student protests against the controversy surrounding the educational requirements for the Deputy Governor continues to spread across various regions. Protesters from the Yogyakarta Special Region Student Executive Board (BEM) officially stormed the Yogyakarta Special Region General Elections Commission (KPU) office to voice a motion of no confidence.
As reported by Tribun Jogja on Wednesday afternoon (October 7, 2026), the demonstration was held in response to the Constitutional Court's legal considerations, which in a hearing found no physical evidence of a valid high school diploma or equivalent from Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka during the 2024 Election registration process.
In their speeches in front of the Yogyakarta Special Region KPU office, the students firmly demanded the immediate removal of the KPU RI Chairman from his position due to his perceived negligence and carelessness in carrying out the administrative verification procedures for the vice presidential candidacy. The Coordinator of the Yogyakarta Student Executive Board (BEM) Forum, Faturahman Djaguna, emphasized that his organization is also urging the Election Organizer Honorary Council to immediately investigate all KPU RI commissioners for alleged violations of election organizer professionalism.
