as a bus enthu from malaysia, i approve this. our K270UB (mainly the 2009 model) is almost gone as well, only about 40 units are in service, while the K250UB (2013-2016?) is still the strongest bus in the fleet, not retiring till the 2030s.

11:52 love to hear someone else nerding out about bus interior differences

props man, this vid is super well edited, even btr with the proper subtitles (this genuinely helped me so much LOL)
anyway there are still some other inconsistent features, like "blackbacks" where the engine cover is painted jet black, cutoff eds on specific euro 5 units, third brake light still left on some euro 4 units and theres probably many more if you really were to nitpick
still this video is incredibly well done and its refreshing seeing smo talk about kubs and not the evs of today

Malaysian engineering at it's finest and at the world stage~ till today if you ask me the best iconic Gemilang bus at mass production in Singapore is still the KUBs!! Wonderful video thanks for the insights!! ;)

video is so peak I remember when I was a new bus enthusiast and when I saw a euro 4 and euro 5 kub at the same bus stop, and saw that the side eds was different places, I sea4ched everywhere

2:25 WAIT I REMEMBER TAKING THIS WHEN I WAS SUPER YOUNG

Basically grew up with these buses when they were introduced in the 2000s. Seeing such a spacious bus with wheel chair access was out of the norm with the fleet during that time period. The Citaros and the BYDs replacing these bus feels so cramped in comparison but that's my opinion.

Oh yeah and specifically on SBS8563R the seats are the CDGE seats

The first part of the video has the information wrong, SBST did not go into crisis mode in 2006.

They already had 4 manufactures come up with prototypes on what would be the next generation of buses being MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Scania and Volvo

Volvo was very close to getting the contract but didn't

The only reason 8033 was registered late was because it was probably evaluated before service. Very likely the chassis evaluated was the ones going to Duck & Hippo as those were registered before the SBST ones

Another thing to add is CDGE DID NOT assemble all units, there were reference units built in Malaysia such as SBS8034B. Certain batches were too large for them to handle so the job was sub contracted out to Soon Chow Corporation, SC Auto AND Liannex

16:10 yes, handgrips! something i notice all too well on kubs, finally glad you noticed too!

on some batch 1 kubs, the handgrip arrangement is rather inconsistent. sometimes there can be an extra third handgrip in front, above the wheel arch behind the driver.
there are also inconsistencies in the rear. a handful of units (SBS8034B, SBS8138K for example) have missing handgrips in the rear. usually there are handgrip brackets to denote whether a handgrip is supposed to be there or not, but on these units they are simply missing. this is a possible installation flaw by either Gemilang or the respective assembler.

the same applies for the batch two units: there is almost no common arrangement!

The pantang part of skipping 4 in the ones and sometimes tens region of the 4D numbers actually arose due to some freak accident back in Aug-Oct 2008 when the second batch had started rolling out not too long ago. From then on the rest of the batch skipped numbers ending with 4. Subsequent batches and new registrations until end of 2012 also skipped numbers ending with forty to forty-nine

honestly the euro 5 is quite modern, and should still stay in service!

Tysm for the vid I love it

yay new vid

Thank you

Never been so early before
