On the road

Join Rich & Ewa on the road adventure in Grand Junction, Colorado where we have had our motorcycle road trip adventure across America on Pause since the back injury. Can we keep riding our Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 or is the America Trip Really over? We head off towards the Million Dollar Highway to see one of the best Scenic motorcycle roads in Colorado. Our Motorcycle adventure leads us into Ouray, Silverton and Durango

Our motorcycle road trip through America has hit a major setback. Join us as we figure out if our journey can continue.

We were deep into our adventure tour when a sudden back injury changed everything. Balancing the excitement of exploring new landscapes with the reality of physical limitations has made us question whether we can keep going on our current path.

This motorcycle travel update covers where we are now and the challenges we are facing on the road. We are taking a moment to reflect on our progress across the America tour and deciding our next steps for the trip ahead.

Subscribe for more updates on our journey, and let us know in the comments if you have ever had to pause a trip due to injury.

When your body tells you something, regardless of how stubborn you are, you should listen. Take care of yourself Rich.

Rich laying on his back by the train tracks and telling his story—epic! You guys are unstoppable and we love you, bye

Riding an ADV bike with a pinched nerve/back spasm is absolute agony—every tiny pothole and gravel vibration shoots straight up your spine! 🏍️ Huge respect to Eva for swapping bikes so Rich had the easier sidestand, and for checking on that stranded Goldwing rider even while dealing with your own pain. Making it over the Million Dollar Highway all the way to Farmington was a massive mental win. Rest up and heal well—we want this tour to continue just as much as you do!

Don't kill the pain too much. Pain is your body telling you to stop and not make it worse.
We are praying for you guys. Stay safe. Stay healthy.

PT here. When laying on a flat surface bend knees with feet flat on floor hands flat at your sides. Gently sway your knees side to side controlling the motion and supporting your weight with your hands which are at your sides. Concentrate on relaxing the muscles in your back.

Hi guys, please please please get Rich on an inversion table. This will decompress the spine and relieve pain. Drink lots of water to hydrate the disks. Love you guys.

As someone who dealt with the same ambush back issue for 25 years I offer unsolicited advice.
Stay on the hard surface! No more off road.
Let your wife ride in front so she can warn you of road surface conditions.
If you drop something, keys, or such, avoid the instinct to just grab it on the go. Instead, stop, square up to the item and thoughtfully kneel to get it. DO NOT bend and twist at the same time or bend while walking.
When putting on your clothes either sit down to put on underwear/pants or put you back/ weight against a wall for balance. This back condition does not like surprises or quick moves/ direction changes. You have to carefully consider every move.
This is what I had to do before I found the right treatment for a premanent fix.
It's a nerve impingement so there aren't too many non narcotic pain meds that will touch it.

That guys Goldwing is the same generation as mine. Same luggage rack too. I keep a towing rider on my insurance for just that kind of problem.

I have been through back problems long ago. My eyes water when I listen to your shouts of agony. I wish you the speediest of recoveries so you can complete your tour. Thinking of you both. Take care of one another.

I'm so glad to see you riding again Rich. A lot of us out here were worried about you. Also I have to say you two show me so much of the beauty in my own country that I will probably never see in person. I can't get enough

You are a tough hombre Rich!! Loved the video. Ewa’s advice to lay flat is spot on! Kudos!!

The best thing I did for my back was to strengthen my core.

Life time rider here..I 'm suprised.. not one person suggested.. lose 15 kilos... and actually exercise.. sitting for hours on the bikes adds up. Thanks for keeping the faith..

That entire southwest area of Colorado is beautiful. I’m glad you got to see it. We were there just a week ago

It’s actually mad how relatable this video is for me. I’ve had back issues for 2 years now but I never let it get in the way of getting out on the bike, about 6 weeks ago I done something in work that completely made my back go into spasm couldn’t move genuinely got a fright. I don’t care how hard you are when the back goes your gone. I haven’t sat on the bike since and haven’t even looked at any videos as it would annoy me I couldn’t go for a spin. Thank you this is what I needed. Hope the your feeling better Rich

@jensomat8270 6 days ago

That really sucks about your back. I’ve dealt with that since I was young; I’m over 60 now, and it’s gotten significantly better for me. I hope you feel better soon. Get well soon, and I hope the two of you have a great trip. Greetings from Sweden.
