🌠🚂Hi and welcome to Aidan's Railways🚂🌠
✅1st: My channel is aimed at adult model makers and collectors of railway related models.
✅2nd: My channel also covers visits to railways around the U.K. in various gauges.
✅3rd: My channel also covers events that myself and my brother attend in relation to his classic car collection.
✅Aidans railways is a channel where i shall bring you reviews of railway related models, the construction of various layouts in different gauges (OO, OO9, N, O & G).
✅For years i have collected models, locomotives, rolling stock and scenery with the plan to build Aidan's Railways.
✅I have used the term "Railways" because there will ultimately be more than one railway and in various gauges.
✅I have a real passion for railways and model making.

💖So follow me as i go through reviewing my stock, New Purchase's, Constructing the Railways and getting Inspiration from our Days out and visiting railways and related locations💖

Just used this technique with the recommended kit, on my ten old style Hornby Gresley teaks. in three hours it has totally transformed them - very very pleased. Admittedly I am a pretty experienced plastic modeller (27 years); albeit I only got back into models railways after my retirement in the past 18 months. So I am reasonably adept at this type of thing . However it is very straight foreword, and something which I think most railways modellers could complete quite easily and is well worth the effort. Many thanks. 👏👏

Hi there Aidan.
I followed your method here and it produces a wonderful result for these old Gresley Teak coaches. I found the Citidel Seraphim Sepia needs three coats to get it to look the shades of teak you produced with it here. Then a fourth detailing coating to pick out the individual teak panels. But the improvement in appearance from the original plastic finish is astonishing. And the Humbrol clear gloss varnish works exactly as you say it will. Brilliant stuff.
I am currently completing a rake of seven of these old Hornby's Gresley coaches and they are starting to look the business! Thank you so much for a delightful and inspiring video.

They look good and certainly a fantastic way to improve the railroad coaches. What you might want to consider when applying your brown wash is trying to simulate the direction of the grainning a little more. Above the waistline was always vertical grain, below was always horizontal. I use velejo acrylics as a base colour, then oil paints mixed with artists liquin to simulate the grain effect, This gives a little more thick mix to play with and the medium means that it takes ages to dry. This gives you loads of time to manipulate the mix to how you like it. Overall a marked improvement on the railroad finish.

Hi. Using your method I have completed 9 of my Hornby teak coaches which are around 30 years old. The result has absolutely transformed them. Many thanks for this great instructional video.

Thank you Thank you, thank you, you are like a breath of fresh air. You don't waffle you just get on with the job in hand, no messing about you just tell it as it is thank you. I think I have learned more from you than anyone.

I have just used your techniques with the brushes on my 14th older coaches!! They have come out really well, I am totally amazed!! The varnish hint was a revelation!!
Regarding the glazing stuck inside, I have used a cheap new retractable scalpel knife with break off blades. I extended the blade and gently slid it along between the inside of the coach side and the glazing. The blade easily sorted out the dabs of glue and some double-sided tape. This meant I could then paint the interiors and add seated passengers.
I now have 2 extra rakes of coaches that I can use without them looking appalling next to my rake of 5 of the latest versions!! Imagine the cost of 14 brand new coaches!! What a saving!
I have also used a mid brown to the horizontal bar on the chassis and also the small rectangles above the doors, so the details are similar to the expensive range! Thanks for the detailed way you gave the instructions and why you were doing the various techniques. 10/10

Hello, I have noticed that on the detailed range of Gresley teaks the roof section continues til the very end of the coaches. the railroad teaks have these added end parts with the corridor connection to the next coach kept in brown. I suggest that You should shut the gap between the end part and the roof with some plastic putty, sand it down and then repaint it white again! that should add a more realistic view!

Thank goodness for folk like yourself for giving some of us the confidence to attempt this modification! I will try it with my half a dozen trainset/railroad style teaks and perhaps even do a similar job on the four that my Father has on his layout too. He has dozens of LNER locos and some suitable period but budget teaks will look good if "authenticated" with this enhancement.

Thanks for this demo Aidan, it works brilliantly!

Excellent video as usual. I also painted my coaches solebars using Humbrol dark grey spray and then colour washed those as well to try and match the main range coaches

You have given me the confidence to weather my teak coaches, thank you very much, pete

Your video about making the HORNBY gresley teak coaches look more realistic is just amazing. Thank you so much for showing what is needed to achieve this look. I have written down what you have used, I only hope I have spelt the names of the items I need correctly. Once again, many thanks Sir. 👍

NICE WORK !

Incredible difference with little effort, I’ve got 4 of these teak coaches and will now be sending off for the paint and brushes you’ve used on this update. As you say the original colours do make them look cheap carriages. Looking forward to make a start, thanks for the information supplied with your video.
