Where do we ever see a 'stage' in Jesus ministry? Or in the ministry of the apostles?
Jesus was eating and breaking bread when he built his discipleship. He gathered people mostly around the table not around the stage. The wedding feast is also a gathering around His table. Our issue in the West is rather systemic because we function like Babylon and not like heavenly Jerusalem. Stages are not even imaginable to the church in China or in Iran. If they can't have a stage, why should we?
One reason these wolves keep hidden, keep offending or keep abusing is because we don’t address or report things we DO see that are questionable. We fear being attacked, or losing our own status, or we falsely believe it’s not our business or jurisdiction or that “covering” someone’s sin is actually righteous. Therefore, we never truly know a leader by their good fruits AND BAD fruits.
This passage doesn’t say, we’ll know them by our discernment or a prophetic word. It says THEIR FRUIT will inform us as to their credibility. We must know about the bad fruits too, so if we know something concerning about a leader that isn’t being addressed, we must say something!! This creates accountability and encouragement for leaders to remain faithful and repent when they sin. And the church will be less likely to be deceived.
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them…” Matt. 7:15-16
