CORRECTION: Heisley sang the Canadian anthem in 2000, not 2001. My bad guys!

I know the NBA is all business but hearing Michael Heisley sing the Star Spangled Banner after just a few years leaving Vancouver is a gut punch.

"Corporate sponsors on jerseys have no place in the league"
That did not age well 😢

It's unreal how billionaire team owners don't pay for new arenas.

he really sang both national anthems?? 🤯🔥

As a Canadian Grizzlies fan, their history in Vancouver is why I'm a fan even if they've moved to Memphis.

Don’t forget that the nba didn’t allow Vancouver or Toronto to get first overall picks for the first 5 years. Imagine if Tim Duncan was drafted.  I doubt the team moves.

Shareef Abdur-Raheem was highly underrated

first time stumbling on this channel, refreshing to not listen to another monotone ai voice. well done homie

-Taxpayer money to fund a social safety net and fund school teacher salaries: 🚫
-Taxpayer money to fund a stadium so a billionaire can earn even more money: ✅

Great channel man. You cover topics that are not so widely talked about and as a younger NBA historian, I salute you for that.

Wow what an NBA tragedy story!! To twist the knife further in the back, Steve Francis stars in the last game in Vancouver and Heisley sings the American anthem at first Memphis game. Wow CHILLING

David Stern, what a hypocrite! He prevented the Grizzlies from being purchased by a person whose intentions were to move the team to St. Louis, yet he allowed the SuperSonics to be purchased by Clay Bennett, knowing he intended not to keep the Sonics and relocate them to Oklahoma City. The way I see it with Vancouver, the franchise was rushed in the following season, not having time to prepare and get well-balanced.

Wu Hoops makes basketball movies. 👏🏾

That OG FedEx colorway is way cooler than what they got now.

That’s genuinely insane that he wanted the tax payers to not only pay for the arena, but also cover the potential losses... It's almost like he just wanted to the team to be completely paid for by the city, while he received all the profits for none of the investment

Not much of a basketball guy but I really enjoy your videos!  Not a ton background noise or sound effects or annoying music!  Just a dude making content that he clearly is knowledgeable about👍

That's  funny NBA told the Grizzlies corporate sponsors have no business on a teams jersey. Now every team has a corporate sponsor on their jerseys.

They had to build a new arena. The Pyramid was already outdated. It was good enough to use for a few years but then sat empty for a long time. Now it is a Bass Pro and is one of the bigger tourist attractions in Memphis.

This is genuinely one of the best basketball channels on YT. Props brother, best of luck.
