On March 9, 1953, 5 million people attended Stalin's funeral. The ultimate paradox for one of the greatest criminals in history. A dull and insignificant revolutionary, who came to power almost by chance, he became the most Machiavellian and bloodthirsty of dictators in 30 years of reign. The man who complacently called himself "the little father of the people" massacred his own people, causing the death of 20 million people.
Bearer of an ideal that was quickly forgotten, he crushed without a second thought all those who opposed him, "even in thought". His re-education through work camps, better known as the Gulag, transformed 18 million Russians into slaves. A murderer of his opponents, but also sometimes of his best friends or even members of his family, his cruelty knew no bounds.
Through archival documents, rich in unpublished images and numerous testimonies from the time (including those of Stalin), this documentary, colorized, tells the story of a man who transformed a dream into a nightmare.
