Just with the boat tour, my impression was that it felt probably more like you are part of the thousand years history while travelling through the canals, and ye the loud speaker was just explaining the history of it as you go.
Maybe think of it a bit like Chinese version of Venice boat tour(except $ cost is like a fraction of Venice ๐)
