The Matrix is a timeless masterpiece. The Matrix is one of those rare perfect films in which not a single frame is wasted.

She’s a very good reactor to watch with.  Authentic and observant.  It was great to share this gem with her.

If you watch the movie in reverse. You can see how a flying guy in a cool black cape becomes a hacker.

Everything The Oracle said came true.  She told Neo that he wasn't The One yet, as he was 'waiting for something, your next life maybe', and that either he or Morpheus would die.  In the end, Neo did die and was 'resurrected' into his next life, where he became fully 'The One'.  This has been perhaps my favorite movie of all time.  Before seeing it, I'd never felt a reason to watch any movie again, but now I've watched this one many, many time.  It never gets old.

When this movie came out it was literally a "paradigm shift" (for once that phrase under-sells the true impact) in pop culture and movie making. Much like Die-Hard a decade before, The Matrix had immense cultural impact. It changed how movies were filmed, it introduced Hong Kong style action cinema to the general Western audiences, pushed forward special effects (google how many films have Bullet Time), it altered fashion (ninja tech chic streetwear was all the rage), it made heroes out of hackers, and of course the quotes, my god, everyone was quoting this movie. It touched on themes of the police state, the dangers of AI, the importance of resisting even against overwhelming odds, touched on the concept of what is identity and transgender themes, it even sparked philosophical debates. This film had an astounding impact that can't be overstated.

The unfortunate part is that you and everyone know this is a trilogy. Back in 1999, no one knew.

The green tinge always represents being inside the Matrix. In the lead up to the cinematic release, they had an ad campaign with the tag line “The Matrix has you.”  And the Warner Bros logo was green. That was the first time that it had been shown in a non standard colour.

I watched this in theaters in 1999 as a high school student. BLEW MY MIND and changed how I looked at the world. American Beauty had similar effect at the time.

A bit after the Matrix came out, time Keanu Reeves visited my friends' game store and bought a wooden chess set from the wife of the couple that owned the shop. We had to tell her it was Keanu because she never watched action movies, lol but she said he was, of course, a very nice man!

Imagine, watching this the cinema, then going out of the cinema into the mall, with all the fake lights and people and signs all around you, and for that moment really wondering if any of it is real 😱
No wonder this is so iconic and had such a lasting impact on pop culture.

I was 9 in 1999 and I went to see The Matrix at a local cinema with my parents and my twin sister. I didn't understand much of it but I remember loving the fight scenes, the neat outfits and the awesome music 😅
To me it was a cool movie and I knew it was special but I didn't understand why. Then I watched it when I was a teen, and again as a young adult. I've watched it several times since then, understanding a little bit more of it each time. Now I think everything about this movie is outstanding!

When Morpheus jumps across the two buildings telling Neo to "Free your mind", that was the first time that was said in film. That we have to free our minds. Thing is, like Neo, we have no idea what that actually means. Seems to take a lifetime to begin to understand.

Now imagine watching this in 1999. Minds were collectively blown.

This was the world's real introduction to Hugo Weaving before Lord Of The Rings. I saw this in theaters and the Tagline for the film was " What is the Matrix "!! Well, we found out!! 1999 was an amazing year for films much like 1994.

Fun fact: Keanu's stunt double in this movie would go on to direct the John Wick movies.

The story behind the making of this film is no less legendary than the film itself. You could make a whole movie about it.

I like how the love he feels for Trinity is so real and present that it cracks the Matrix, in his mid, because it can never be as real. Neo is not The One and Trinity loves The One. He is The One BECAUSE Trinity loves him.

I watched this like 15 times as a teen. Honestly the following movies take away from the mystique.

They did some insane stuff for this movie. The actors all learned martial arts. The rotation scenes were filmed with like 200 cameras. That's not animation. They actually filmed all those angles.
