Doug not letting us hear this car when talking about the pipes is a crime

I miss the days when Doug would show us how he fits in a back seat

This was my mom’s midlife crisis car in the 70s. Two things I remember the most. First, the 12 cylinder engine purred like a real jaguar. It was so smooth and it purred along like no other car I’ve ridden in since. It was just wonderful. Second were those chrome spoke wheels. OMG, they got dirty easily and I remember washing them once, and OMG, what a pain they were to clean. I used a paint brush and even that didn’t help much. She ended up selling it for more than she bought it for. It was a beautiful car.

The handbrake looks like a well used poker from a 1970's fireplace

Classic jags only need 2 seats, one for you, and one for your mechanic.

The Series I with the 6-cylinder engine is the best of the E-Types, IMO. The covered headlights make a big visual difference and the 6-cylinder engine is rock solid.

That hood could fit a straight 12

My son is 23 now but when he was about 10 years old… I showed him a bunch of pictures of supercars and he is a gearhead ever since that day.. when I showed him a picture of a jaguar of this type, he said… that car right there dad… that thing looks awesome

14:42 the two cassette tapes with Roy Orbison and Billy Joel feel period-correct.

Why did you not rev that V12 for us to listen to :(

My father had a 74 roadster with a 4 speed and steel wheels. The steel wheels were a necessity with the available torque. It’s said that ALL used Jaguars arrive needing a clutch and tires, my dad’s didn’t need a clutch. He replaced the worn out tires with the best Dunlop made in that size trying to keep it British. After a weekend of spirited driving we went out one Monday morning to find a brand new Dunlop had unbelted itself and the tread was flat on the garage floor. Two things I remember were the uncanny noise of the engine cranking on the starter, with twelve cylinders there was no rythym, just a steady whir until it fired, also when driving at normal speed around neighborhood corners the thumping from the locking differential. What a car.

The A/C was an add on unit (not all jags have A/C), which is why the knobs were different.

The car is so iconic that Doug was told to wear a t-shirt, a jacket, and shorts.

I drove one of the few XJS 3.6 Litre manual transmission vehicles ever made. That was a lot of fun. It was a 5 speed. My favorite Jag was the XJR SC. A supercharged V8 . In 1998 it was the fastest production sedan on the market.

Remember that the passenger door is the driver side door, where it was made. Not too bad to open the ‘trunk’ if you’re getting in that side to drive it.
