In 1991 I was backpacking around SE Asia and arrived in Malang in East Java. At the bus terminal I picked up a public phone to arrange my accommodation but couldn't make contact. A husband and wife standing nearby tried to help me but also failed then they very generously invited me to stay with them. I'm a Londoner so was automatically suspicious of anybody inviting a total stranger to stay but I took a chance and agreed to go with them. They gave me a nice room, took me to the local tourist sites, took me out for meals and introduced me to the real Indonesia. I ended up staying with them for two weeks!😂
I visited them several times over the next few years and fell in love with Indonesia. In 1998, I  moved here permanently and married a beautiful local girl in 2001. We've been happily married for 24 years. And it all started because of the kindness of two Indonesian strangers

I've never been to Indonesia. However, I know a lot of Indonesians here in Australia. I used to live (for much of my life) in the north of Western Australia. there is or was a high Indonesian population there. They truly are very friendly people and they fit right into Australian life. Indonesian women are amazingly kind and gentle. most of the men are too for that matter. so easy to make friends with the Indonesian people.
