Cool. How bout if you cut out a circle from some MDF or plywood - put the cymbal on top of the circle and then mount the whole deal in the drill. Then you can apply some pressure at the edge without the cymbal bending away from you. Thinning out the edge really opens a cymbal up and makes it more crashable, less ‘gongy’.

LOVE the results. The new cymbal has much more appealing sound.

I use a similar setup. Be careful not to breath that metal dust if you use sandpaper or whatever.

That amount made a noticeable improvement to me in the recording. The note pitch went away and the tone  was more diffused and washy.

You need more support on the opposite side of the drill to keep it from wobbling.

I have some otherwise unusable sabian sbr cymbals in my stack of unused cymbals. In my opinion they’re too thick, stiff, and bright. I can’t wait to try this for myself.

I tried this, and it made all of my fingers the same length.

Really cool post man. I have a stack of great quality cymbals that have cracked and spidered on the edges...l'm looking for ways to remove the outer edges up to an inch in.... any safe ideas?
