Microtransactions are bad, but what's worse is the amount of people happily spending so much on them. We get so much of it because, objectively, it works very well sadly.

Fun fact, in Poland we call Ubisoft "ubikacja", which literally means toilet

This needs to a multipart series with EA, Microsoft, Acclaim etc

Ubisoft always updates every game on Steam at once for 500 mbs because of Ubisoft Connect and I hate it. And of course every time they update, they forget your credentials so you can't play them until you manage to log into that mess of a platform again.

All I want to do is play Scott Pilgrim in peace, man 😭

Every time I try to think of the good things that Ubisoft has under their belt, like Rayman or Prince of Persia or Far Cry 3 or whatever, I’m always reminded of some of the BULLLLLLshit that they’ve tried to get away with.

So is he gonna make a part 2 to this? Because that ending was right before the SA lawsuits, AC Shadows, the layoffs, the TenCent “buyout”, and where we are today with the “five creative houses”. It’s like pausing a disaster movie right before the tsunami hits!

I love berry crepe so much. Just felt like saying that. I’m thankful she’s so consistent with her content. Always reliable right around lunch time 😂

10:05 Pausing a serious corpo commentary to hit the emergency reindeer shake, I see? Pretty BASED, Kraken.

11:29 Berry is so cute here I love how she is just vibing to the beat

"Ubisoft is the worst"

0 seconds into the video and I already agree

I wonder what the rest of these 50 minutes will contain-

She said 'The minions stole the Rabbids swag', and now I can't unsee it.

It is amazing how so many people actually bought the microtransactions. Online backlash only gets you so far, its the wallet where it hurts the most.

I've always considered Ubisoft a horrible company, but now I can really understand and respect how long they planned and dedicated themselves to reach the sheer depths of craptitude that they stand at, today. Truly impressive.

Ubisoft?

I'm made of flesh of course I'm soft.

The rayman 3 team were so confident they would get a 4th game that they had Murphy say “see you 4” right after you finish talking and then the rabbids party game happened instead.

Also the interesting thing about watchdogs 1 is that hackers discovered the game actually was capable of running detail similar to the trailers, it was just turned off in the code. Meaning Ubisoft seemingly did straight up lie about intentionally downgrading the game, possibly because they saw it was to good compared to their other products and wanted to manipulate expectations.

i will never forgive ubisoft for killing off the crew

Fun fact: Black Flag was the reason why Ubisoft turned the future AC games into open-world rpg games.

The problem with big companies is that they are like AI (not the social impact, but the actual AI concept of training): They only know reward and punishment, so when players keep rewarding bad trends, those trends only grow stronger.
Valhalla is "shit" (I Haven't played so I have no opinion, but I mean according to the video) and yet it is the most profitable game. That means that it gets rewarded, and the trend is accelerated.
Like with AI training, if you want to avoid certain trends, you need to punish them so that the neural network or in this case the c-suite try to find other alternatives.
Big Companies are only in for the money, but they do not make shitty games on purpose, they make shitty games because that is what makes the most money.
If making good games made them more money, they would make good games.

Smaller companies are usually still in their idealistic phase, and as long as they make enough money to maintain themselves, they are in for the art, they have a passion.

For Big Companies on the other hand, each game is quite literally that yearly running operation costs, so if one flops, the company may go under, or have to cut costs drastically.
The same s true for smaller companies, but if a smaller company goes under, that affects 5 people. If Ubisoft goes under that affects half of the industry.

There is a vicious cycle on the side of the players too: It is a human trait that we prefer things with which we are familiar. That is why music companies spend millions paying radio stations to play certain songs. How many songs have "grown on you"? Songs that at first were like "eh.. whatever" and now are your jam? This is because the more you hear it, the more familiar you become with it, and the more you like it.
There is a human tendency to prefer familiarity over innovation, because innovation requires a certain degree of discomfort.
People nowadays still watch Friends, Breaking Bad, etc for the nth time, instead of this new show which is actually amazing.

And this is specially true for people with ADHD and autism. Guess which group has a larger proportion of those than the average population?

This means that players flock to the same franchises and IPs over and over and over, and games like Beyond Good and Evil flop.
The irony is that all those franchises and IP started because one game that was new, and that is why when Big Companies create new games they are truly trying to create new IPs.

Of course there are solo games that do well, like Expedition 33. But also often they are developed by smaller companies, like Expedition 33.
If Expedition 33 were developed by Ubisoft, then it would most likely be worse simply because they would try to make it the original seed of a franchise, like how after the MCU every studio tried to make their own cinematic universe and the movies were significantly worse for that as half of the movie run time was spent introducing plots for future movies.

In summary, Big Corporations are rewarded for their bad behaviour by players who hate the idea of their bad behaviour but actually crave the consequences of that bad behaviour. People love to cry about "Great, yet another Call of Duty" but then they never buy the CoD alternatives and rush to buy the new CoD.

Avarice always brings death to all businesses.

2:03 that would probably work out better than Ubisoft developers
