Rolling Deep with Rolleiflex

Adam Kashflow

In this video, I'm talking all things Rolleiflex — why I love shooting with it, and a look at the components that make up the system. Then it's out into the field for some real footage of me actually using it, followed by a deep dive into a bunch of the photos I've taken with it.

This camera has such a distinct character, and I wanted to put together something that really shows what it's like to shoot with one day to day.

I’m glad you like this historic camera. I also enjoy using the Rolleiflex and Rolleicord—but only in their pure, original form: with a standard lens. All the photographic aids developed later, like the Mutare, were really just crutches—interesting toys for tech enthusiasts. When it comes to actual photography, using a camera purely as a tool, these are impractical, time-consuming contraptions. It was precisely because of this lack of truly practical expandability that this camera increasingly lost market share in the 1960s. And Rollei was struggling as a company back then; the little Rollei 35 essentially saved the company. Greetings from the former Rollei country

Very nice example photos. Thanks for the video. One thing I did want to point out quick. When you attach the Rolleinars the deeper lens goes on the viewing not the taking lense. On the thicker part of the Rolleinars there will be a red dot. When you attach it into the bayonet mount and turn it to lock it in place make sure that red dot at the top. That is crucial because the Rolleinars are designed that they actually sit at an angle as part of the automatic parallax correction. The quality of those lenses is incredible. Will get excellent detail using them. Please consider a video showing some examples using the Mutar attachments. I've always been interested in them but examples of the results are so hard to find I've been hesitant to pay the rediculous prices they fetch without knowing how good they are. Thanks for the video!

Hey great video. I have a ROLLEICORD Vb and I also love it. Waiting to see your other ROLLEIKIN video. BTW Could you please add the links to the strap and the case shops, they look neatly done.

Great video explaining and showcasing the Mutars, never seen these before, will have to look into these. Quick question regarding travelling with the Rolleiflex, 10 yrs ago i went to Hawaii and just took my Rolleiflex and had wonderful results. Back then the airports had normal x ray machines so minimal damage was done to the films. How do you go about going through security these days with most airports with the newer CT scan machines? Iv'e read one pass and they ruin your film?
