In one of the most emotional episodes in Monkey World history, the primate care staff faces every animal rescuer's worst nightmare. Following a routine knee operation, young orangutan Aris suffered a catastrophic stroke. Despite round-the-clock nursing and expert veterinary care, he slipped into a vegetative state, leaving the team with the agonizing decision to put him to sleep. He was a beloved, rambunctious member of the nursery, and his loss has left the sanctuary in mourning.

But even on the darkest days, there is hope. Meet Paulo, a 7-week-old woolly monkey who is being hand-reared by our dedicated staff after struggling to feed from his mother. Watch as this tiny baby hits major milestones, pulling hilarious faces as he tries solid foods for the very first time! Plus, see how the sanctuary's chimpanzee troops handle shifting power dynamics in the wake of all this emotion.

Monkey Life follows the work of Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre with nail-biting rescue and rehabilitation stories. Whilst there are primates in need, Dr. Alison Cronin, Jeremy Keeling and their dedicated team continue to fight the illegal trade in primates and give those rescued a safe haven for the rest of their lives.
