As a group they are untouchable. As individuals they cannot reach the same level.
I’ve seen Sting twice as a solo act playing the same songs as The Police, which I’ve seen twice in concert, it’s not even close. The Police have a whole different energy.
The only thing The Police reunion proved was that no matter how many songs Sting writes, how many solo tours he does with all the musicians he’s played with, he is undeniably tied to Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers and under the shade of The Police.
There weren't any bands that sounded like them prior during the late 1970s through the early 1980s.
The mixture of ska, reggae, rock, jazz, punk, and new wave was brilliant, grooving, funky, and fucking infectious!
Their style and awesome musicianship, along with their heartfelt songwriting, captured the essence of that era.
The music of THE POLICE will be a part of my soul forever.
I also really enjoyed STING's first two solo albums as well, but, he will NEVER surpass what he accomplished with Stewart Copeland on drums and Andy Summers on guitar!
Long live the music of THE POLICE!
Two whole freaking songs.
Their signature ones to boot —
MIAB and EBYT.
I prefer what he did in the confines of a punk/reggae band. Though he does have plenty of solo hits I love. He's also got like 100 slow, jazzy songs in his solo catalog. Which I think are a bit indulgent. But hey, there are other musicians I can listen to.
