This is so beautiful, I know these were hard times but the love and simplicity of the treats children got at Halloween can NEVER be recreated these days! More than the treats, it is about the loving memories that were made 👍 🎃
My mother made fried apple pies with apples, peeled, sliced and dried by her on hands on a makeshift table of turned up trash cans and chicken wire set in the front yard sun. I don’t remember if she made them with biscuit or pie dough or if they were made in October. I just remember I loved them. I have her filling recipe only because she posted it in a collection book of church lady recipes…I make mine with a buttered pie dough…

Hello Mama Pearline!, My Grandmother always made the candy apples. Both kinds red and carmel. We kids had the job of unwrapping the carmels and don't eat them was heard!!. We always made our costumes because it meant more. My Mother always made fudge and the peanut butter balls. Thank you for stirring up these childhood memories for us!!. And our Church did have a Harvest party. Cakewalk and all the fun you showed. I still make goodies but in a much smaller amounts. My grown kids still ask for certain things because it's a good memory for them!! Thank you!!
We lived in the country. No door to door trick or treat- we went to the church too. But none of this good food. We had packaged candy. Wish I was at your church.
