A few weeks ago SEPTA released their "Accelerate" plan outlining a future roadmap for public transit investment in the city of Philadelphia. This week we speak to Jay Arzu from ‪@RooseveltBlvdSubway‬ to discuss those new plans, as well as to get an update for where things stand with the Roosevelt Boulevard Subway.

Accelerate is a pretty encouraging plan. I'm really glad that SEPTA is finally flipping the script on this matter and instead of begging for funds and threatening the cuts, they're saying "this is what we won't be able to do if the system has to stay in a state of Managed Decline". It's a great move

It’s amazing how the state republics don’t wanna pay for transit in pgh and philly bc they don’t use it, but I’m expected to pay for their roads 400 miles away through farmland that I’ve never even touched. For some reason it’s not a two way street…

Saw Jay when he interviewed City Nerd in Philly last week. I thought dude just saw this constantly abandoned subway branch and wanted to focus on that as his passion in the field-but Dr. Jay is a legend

Damn! I’m from NE and I pray this pans out. It really always has had so much potential and could grow the city well. Always knowing I can go out and have fast frequent reliable cheap (one day free) well kept newer spacious busses would be a game changer for the entire city and region.

Has it been a great tug-of-war in Harrisburg between the urban and rural communities, concerning matters of mass transit? Truth be told, urbanism is occurring everywhere! Mass transit will benefit everyone no matter what area or political party. Don’t small towns also need newer, improved buses? Trolleys? Light rail? PennDot widening roads are only temporary band-aids. It still leads to more congestion, pollution and frustration than anything else.

Dude is super knowledgeable on Philly ppl & how septa is nostalgic to them the 22 is a really long bus route now but it used to be a trolley & anyone over 55-60 will let you know about it!

These Regional Rail lines that are proposed to get the S-bahn treatment all run through medium-dense areas outside the CBD and most terminate at significant job centers. It would be hugely beneficial for the region for these areas to get rapid transit into Center City and to jobs across town.
