I learned earlier on that the best new music is the old music you haven’t listened to yet.

"Some people feel the rain; others just get wet." - Bob Dylan-

Music isn’t getting worse. The music you are hearing is getting worse.

Its true, I am tired of Music so ugly and they are getting awards. I hate it

"If it's not on the radio or it's not on television, well then it's not happening... and that's not true at all."  Truer, more prescient words could not have been spoken, Bob.  Thank you!

It isn’t just music.  In every aspect of life things have gotten worse.  My daughter was born in 2001 and she listens only to music from the 60s-90s.

There was a music renaissance last century. Many of us were fortunate to live through it. Seems the degeneration of our society and the perversion of money has invalidated much of the art that cannot be commercialized, though there are always artists emerging. Go to the coffee shops and small venues to discover and patronize the starving artists. Live music will make you laugh and cry.

From UK. Whenever I hear Bob talking so eloquently ,as he always does , he always reminds me of John the Baptist . The voice crying in the wilderness.

What’s being pushed is terrible, but it’s bullshit that music is getting worse. The mainstream pop music for sure is getting worse, but there are still so many talented musicians who care about making GREAT music today. It’s just unfortunate that that’s not what is being pushed out to the masses.

what Bob is saying applies to Popular music, not music at large. corporate interests have learned over many decades to make ‘pop’ music a money printing machine, (and when pop isn’t controlled to one extent or another by corporate interests, it’s a rare combo of luck, good branding, intentional or not at first, and a good management team who makes deals that allow for creative freedom in that sphere) and most people don’t have the time or the interest to widen their scope beyond that. And that machine’s not gonna stop because too many people just Don’t care and many are brainwashed into thinking what’s popular is so because it’s good and not because it’s been marketed to death. unfortunately, the latter is what it is most of the time in popular music culture now. It’s not that someone like Dylan doesn’t exist now, its that far fewer people with Dylan’s talent are seen as commercially viable and the cultural apparatus telling you what to listen to is no longer selling you that kind of talent so you have to discover it and then make up your own mind when you do.

I knew of Dylan in the 60s but did not appreciate him, his music until the mid-80s. One of the greatest poets of my lifetime.

"When people stand out in a individual kind of way they don't fit in into the system, they don't sell..." so true. Such a statment these days would offend a lot of mediocre people

I recently bought my first Dylan recording, ever, “The Essential Bob Dylan”. Can’t believe I waited this long at 56 years of age.

I don't hear much music today that interests me.  Maybe 10 or so popular songs since about 1985 that have stood out to me.  I'm 69 and have been spoiled with great music from my younger years.

In the good ol' days - the rise of the teenager with a bit of spare cash was a major factor.
Nowadays it only those youngsters that have rich parents.
Being physically attractive is a must now too.

Rant over.

It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!

I have a lot of respect for his viewpoint, very sensible

I always liked Bob Dylan. Great artist!

I’m naive enough even at 66 to want to beleive that music of the ‘60’s will be around longer than even the most popular artists of today.

I think the corporate buyout of the radio 1996 was a major player in blocking talent. .
