It's eyebrow-raising that she describes Prince Bagration, the man after whom the operation was named, as 'obscure'. He's not obscure at all, he's a very famous and important general, well-known even outside Russia.

Thank you Dr Alex Richie, James Holland, Al Murray, Harry Lineker and Tony Pastor.

Al Stewart, who I like to think of as folk-rock Iron Maiden, has an absolutely haunting song "The Roads to Moscow."  It does a good job I think of capturing the Soviet infantryman's experience of Barbarossa to Berlin.  The ending is brutal.

Amazing information … hopefully she has written the book by now … just messy situation but war is messy

Very interesting. Your guest talks at a speed that I can’t deal with, but fascinating conversation.

To say you cant understand why soviet offensives sort of "petered out" shows an utter lack of understanding of logistics... sustaining high tempo mobile operations consumes vast quantities of material and the longer the MSR becomes the worse the problem becomes, that inescapable rule had its impact of the western allied operations in western Europe in 44/45 and was a contributor to the issues between Patton and Montgomery

Just started listening. Hoping for a lozenge and a yeah, yeah, yeah 😂

I wonder if there are any Red Army infantry who made it through the entire war from invasion to surrender.

Having enjoyed the Normandy series I was looking for a similar tour of one of the pivotal clashes in the east. There’s obviously less interest in the Soviet struggle from these guys and understandably due to the challenges of detailed research and the current anti-Russian ‘mood’, but they can’t resist the orthodox western narrative that ‘industrial democracy’ won the war. The only explanation they give for the huge Russian sacrifice was the survival instinct, but it’s more than that, it’s an emotional ability to fight that has terrified Western Europeans since medieval times.

Come on Al,spit it out will you ⁉️‼️😲🤪🤔😉👏
Stalin was worse than Hitler when it comes down to it😮‼️ Hell, Hitler looks like a piker compared to the body count that Stalin has under his belt ‼️
Including his own people he killed by the millions 😮if not into the tens of millions ‼️😲😳 the murdering bastard ‼️
Great job everyone thank you 👏👍☮️✌️

The best planned provisioned directed operation of the the second world war took 34 german divisione out tore open the eastern front led to panic in the german army shortened the war and proved once and for all that the total victory of the red army was only a matter of time
