Top 10 PRETTIEST Towns in SURREY

Alex in Great Britain

What are the 10 prettiest towns in the county of Surrey? To determine this, I visited them all. Here's what I found out.

Please note the following:

1. Greater London is excluded, ruling out Richmond, Kingston upon Thames etc, even though they are historically considered to be part of Surrey.

2. This list is neither a social commentary, nor a guide on which are the nicest towns to live, but purely a judgement on the aesthetics of each respective town centre.

This video is part of an ongoing series. To catch up with previous episodes, check out the playlist here: Prettiest Towns in the UK by County

All footage is my own, and originates from my flagship channel, 4K Explorer, which you can check out here: -- @4kexplorer

In Godalming The Phillips memorial is shown, but it's significance isn't mentioned. It is dedicated to Jack Phillips the wireless operator on the Titanic, who remained in post calling for help as it sank.

As a born and bred Londoner who's spent the last 10 years living in Reigate, I'm actually quite happy to say that Guildford does deserve the number one slot! Reigate's nice, but it is a bit like Surrey's answer to Stepford. 😄

English towns do not look bleak at all. They look wonderful considering how old they are. Such history. Thank you!

Thanks for this. So nice to see all those places of my youth. Grew up in Stoneleigh/Ewell/Epsom/Ashtead (we seemed to move further along the A24 everytime we moved house) and enjoyed the pubs and nightlife of the South Down towns :D

Thank you. I really enjoyed this and have to agree, Guildford is beautiful and that’s why I chose it to live in. I’ll keep watching to find my next move 😊

Happy my local town, the much maligned Leatherhead, made the list. Reminded me that there is much more to it than the planning nightmare that is The Swan Centre !

I was born in Guildford and I totally agree it being number one, the Castle grounds are gorgeous kept immaculate all year, It is full of history and definitely worth a visit mainly Spring or Summer.

Lovely, thanks. Good information, well researched and presented. I think Castle Street in Farnham needed more of a feature. It is a beautiful wide avenue leading to the castle.

I'm a bit surprised that you didn't mention Oxted: lots of fine old buildings, a lovely old church and some picturesque villages nearby. My late mum was evacuated there during WW2 and had fond memories of her time there.

Great video. I love finding out the history of names, so really appreciate hearing where places originate. For Guildford, I heard, it derives its name from the river ford just by the Yvonne Arnaud theatre which was distinctive due to its yellow sand. 😊

It is quite amazing that you visit each place personally. Really enjoying the series.

As someone who has lived 100 yards from the Pepperpot for the last 20 odd years and raised a family here, and also knows the other towns and cites mentioned here very well, I've gotta say this is a really well considered review. I have to hold a hand up and tell you I'm not actually "bred" here like some of my best mates so am not not strictly a native to the area, which for many traditional communities in other countries I've experienced really matters even now!
Regardless, I hope that being a mostly fair minded person gives added weight to my reaction when I say you've got this about right!
A wonderful part of the world with an incredibly rich history (the tablets my youngest found in our garden are 3kbce! and our daily lives are surrounded by songbirds dawn to dusk). My two sons have grown up here, along with many other very good people, the vast majority of whom give more than they take.
