I bought a green mg monty in 1995, looked and drove brilliant. Spent a few quid on it and had it 6 days before some scumbag stole it. Police found it 5 days later abandoned in a field rammed into a tree. Recovered the car on a trailer myself and got surrounded by the police on the way home, they arrested me for having a stolen vehicle. 4 hours later and some bright spark finally found out that I was the owner. That's my memories of that effing car. 😊

My dad had a montego , I’m 43 now and I’d love to own this , memories are priceless

From an era of "no airbags we die like men".
And look how much glass this car has, almost zero blindspots.

How are The Bangers & Cash team not already bankrupt? Seen so many massive loss making restorations 🤣🤣

I owned an A reg Montego back in the early nineties. Still got a soft spot for them and the Turbo version is extremely rare now.

In 1990 I bought a absolutely mint MG Montego, with about 12,000 miles, for 2400 pounds.  It looked, smelled and drove like brand new and contrary to what anyone said it was a nice and comfortable car.  I traded it in for a BMW 520i    A few years later I bought a regular Montego 1.6 as a second car and used it for a fair bit of distance driving all over the UK.  In the winter it overheated and that blew a head gasket, but at very low cost it was repaired and back on he road, it overheated due to freezing up with insufficient antifreeze which was entirely my fault, other than that I never had a breakdown.      The saloon petrol was never highly regarded, but the diesel estate was a sought after car that retained its value for a long time was seen long after the saloons were scrapped.

Had 2 of these back in the day, silver one (non turbo) then a green one. Absolutely loved those cars.

My grandad had one in British racing green back in the day. What a car that was

I worked at the Rover dealer in Hemel Hempstead in the early 90s, I thought these were very quick until the 220/420 turbo's came along a couple of years later as their spiritual successor, they were next level manic!

Was Mechanic at main dealer when these were on the go driven loads off them amazingly quick car in its day , lot of high end super cars struggled to keep with them

I remember these car. They were fast 😊

The Montego was the first car to receive the Design Award of Great Britain.

First car I ever worked on as a trainee mechanic, changed the rear shocks on one, fell in love with them then, never got around to owning one though, my dad had the mg maestro, but I really liked the montego.

I had an E reg Montego Turbo in white ,Yes was quick and at the time was up there with the Renault 5 GT turbo and Lancia delta HF turbo .Was probably the most comfortable seat of any car I have driven in .Mine handled pretty well .The torque steer would pull you into the kerb if not careful and had a few exciting moments pulling off quick at junctions . Absolutely loved driving it and will always remember the smiles it gave me .Always fancied the MG  Maestro Turbo too

Funny buggers these cars!  Dissolved like alka seltzer in hot water, depreciated faster than dog shit but had a reputation for being seriously quick!  Glad this one has been saved!

Loved this! Brought back so many memories! I had a black MG Montego in my youth and loved it!

I had one as my company car, was a quick car in its day

Had 4 back in the 90,s. Aged 17. Absolute blowers. Dusted everything. Even the Blue Lights..😉

It's nice to see one not sticking out of a hedge or upside down on a farmers field somewhere. Watch many a few end up binned in ditches back in the day

Brilliant, well done the team for saving that one.
