Han Kang, "Farewell" | I Woke Up as a Snowman

After dozing off on a riverside bench on a winter day, she woke up to find herself turned into a snowman.

With a body that retained only a faint warmth where her heart once stood, she begins to bid her final farewell to her lover, her child, and her parents.

"Farewell," a short story by Han Kang, the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature laureate.

It is a sad yet beautiful story that asks where a person ends and an object begins, and what a disappearing existence leaves behind.

It is also the second work in Han Kang's "Snow" series, which leads into the novel *I Do Not Say Goodbye*.

Born in Gwangju in 1970. Debuted in 1994 through the Seoul Shinmun New Year's Literary Contest. Recipient of the Yi Sang Literary Award, Hwang Sun-won Literary Award, Kim Yu-jeong Literary Award, and others. Won the Man Booker International Prize (2016) for *The Vegetarian*, and is set to become the first Korean author to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2024. Author of works including *The Boy Comes*, *White*, and *I Do Not Say Goodbye*.
