40 years… and the story continues: In 2024, private media celebrate their 40th anniversary, and Barbara Schöneberger is a truly exceptional figure in every respect, as a TV presenter, radio host, and entertainment icon. In the video podcast "40 Years On Air," she talks about the freedom of expression in TV and radio, her show business career, and the alarm bells ringing with the Broadcasting Council.

She doesn't mince words: "If I were to do today what I did back then, the Broadcasting Council would be called in after two minutes."

The entertainer, who is omnipresent in the media landscape through TV, her own radio station "barba radio" on Regiocast, and the podcast "Mit den Waffeln einer Frau" (With the Waffles of a Woman), believes there needs to be more room for humor and less "joyless, self-pitying drivel."

... Refreshingly honest, she admits: "I love it when something looks like my own work, but then others actually take care of it. I'm not the type to read letters, open emails, or answer the phone. And I'm simply not an idea generator."

In an interview with Thomas Lückerath, she also reveals what she dreams of for her professional future, why her dream of appearing on the radio without makeup and wearing sweatpants didn't come true, and why television is still the leading medium even in the age of social media.

About the video podcast series "40 Years On Air":

40 years of private media in Germany: "40 Years On Air" takes a personal, rather than political, approach to this topic. For the new video podcast from VAUNET and DWDL, Thomas Lückerath has invited fascinating personalities from TV and radio to talk with them about "the best industry in the world," about memories, successes, concerns, and aspirations.

Joining them are Jürgen Doetz, the first man in German private television (first managing director of PKS/Sat.1), radio managers Valerie Weber (Audiotainment Südwest) and Katrin Helmschrott (BB Radio), as well as prominent figures from German television, including Klaas Heufer-Umlauf, Günther Jauch, Barbara Schöneberger, and Peter Kloeppel.
