No surprise Steven asked Andy Partridge to collaborate with lyrics on this. Andy was frontman of band XTC. A band that went from punkish pop to some of the most amazing, underrated experimental music. My all time favourite lyricist along with Lennon and McCartney.
Steven can do so many things! THE RAVEN THAT REFUSED TO SING is a stunning album and very moving. He can also do wonderful electronica as you hear when you listen to this. You need also to look at BIG BIG TRAIN who are also working at scale
I am so glad you reacted to this piece of music and were so moved by it. I've been amazed by this man for 20 years, now and he is still finding ways to blow my mind. You pretty much nailed my exact reaction to this musicwhen I listened to Objects the first time. I will add that for the opening and closing verse that Steven's musical character was actually speaking to a higher being when he says I said yes, but you played to hard to get. Not to mention he switches out one word in that line to ,I said yes, cause you played to hard to get. BTW, the section called Objects Meanwhile was the section where Steven had Andy Partridge write those lyrics. Everything else was Steven. The ending guitar solo was created played by Randy Mcstine, and the final sounds where the tone got lower and more distorted was done simultaneously on pedals and by slowly detuning a guitar string. It was also an incredible live show to see, that I watched The Northfield Park racing near Cleveland. Do yourself a favor and watch some of the audience videos on YouTube from this tour and also buy and watch two long form blu rays of his first tour Get All You Deserve, and then the concert at The Royal Albert Hall from the To The Bone tour. Also, Russell Holzman is Adam Holzmans son, and I believe Willow Beggs is Nick Beggs daughter.
I’m sitting here watching you and your expression as you dig this amazing piece of music. Seeing young people, especially a female at that, absorb this masterpiece, gives me hope!!!!! I had to subscribe to your channel. I wish you could’ve experienced this show live! Un. fucking believable!!!! The first 45 minutes of the concert was a once in a lifetime experience, which makes me happy, yet sad. I’ll keep watching your channel.
It had been 7 years since Steven Wilson performed in the U.S. and I was not going to miss him. I and my son saw Steven perform this Album on September 9th,2025, in the first stop of the North American tour in San Francisco. What a great experience of emersion in the wonderful world of "Objects Outlive Us". What a splendid reaction Angelica, so glad for the re-experience with you. Based on the new release of "Requiem for a Village" coming out on his next album in November, it is clear Steven is really enjoying his falsetto vocal stylings.
Whatever you think about Steven Wilson, one thing is obvious: He ALWAYS amazes, whether is heavy prog, lovesongs with a twist or this song, it's always worth listening to! greetings from the Netherlands!!
His creativity often washes over you like a wave. For some, the way the music overwhelms you is just too intense. In my opinion, you have to listen to his albums several times to fully grasp his genius. I’m 70 years old and have heard quite a bit, but Steven Wilson is something special. To me, he’s the Bach of the 21st century❤
