Forgotten cars, weird diners, wild fashion—this is the real America they don’t teach you about. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1mc69nx3bmzUoYlJgjdTEhZaXF3iYKW2&si=LXXVucRZz1-Oj-Yh

Burger Chef holds a special place in my heart. It's where my husband and I had our first date in 1970, in Denton, Texas. We were two broke college students so we shared a burger and fries and a medium drink. Thursday, August 14, 2025 will be our 54th wedding anniversary

I didn’t just remember the food—I remembered being a kid, sitting in a vinyl booth with my parents, sharing fries. These places were more than restaurants… they were memories.

Back then it was simple—grab a burger, sit down with friends, no WiFi, no apps. Fast food actually meant “fast and friendly.”

We had Sambos, Red Barn and Howard Johnson’s. By the 1970’s they were all gone.

When I showed the story of Henry's Hamburgers to a female tenant, and told her that H.H. was a nationwide chain in the day, she laughed at me, and called me a "dumb and crazy fool" after she saw that the Benton Harbor, MI restaurant was the last one standing today! "Father, forgive her; for she knows not what she does" is my motto; it has been since February 1, 1990!!

I remember Burger Chef and those BIG fifteen cent hamburgers and BIG ten cent packs of French fries.
There was a Burger Chef in my town where I worked.
I made a dollar an hour (1962).
It closed decades ago. 😔
