What truly makes a story original? Doing something no one expects—or finding a new way to tell what everyone already knows?

Arrival and End of the Street faced very similar problems.

One needed to make an alien movie after decades of extraterrestrial invasions in cinema. The other needed to make a dinosaur movie in a world that already knows Jurassic Park and Jurassic World from every possible angle.

Both needed to be different... But they chose completely different paths.

While Arrival removes several traditional alien movie clichés and places communication, language, and human choices at the center of the story, End of the Street tries to escape the shadow of Jurassic Park by adding dinosaurs, family drama, time travel, portals, duplications, and abrupt changes in tone.

The problem isn't in doing something strange... It's in making each idea seem necessary.
