Echigo Yuzawa, Niigata Prefecture, is a renowned ski resort. Located in front of the station, the 222-room hotel "Sporea Yuzawa" opened in 1987, at the height of the bubble economy, but its operating company went bankrupt in 2020. The hotel is still owned by over 100 owners, who still own condominiums. The unique management method of "compartmental ownership" led to the collapse of "Sporea Yuzawa." Together with Yusuke Yoshikawa, who has covered numerous "negative legacies of the bubble economy," we conducted an undercover investigation of Sporea Yuzawa. We uncovered the dark side of "compartmental ownership hotels."
