The Big Short is by far the best cinematic depiction of the 2008 housing bubble. Breaking down the complexities of the financial products which fuelled the crisis, while also drawing us into the emotional journeys of the few who saw the disaster forming.

But for every Michael Burry or Steve Eisman story that the movie explored in great depth, there are so many other mind-blowing elements that only earned a mention in passing.

Such as the real reason Greg Lippmann was trying to sell Eisman on the mortgage bond bet and the true genius behind Charlie and Jamie, two outsiders who found a bet way bigger than even Burry himself.

So let me take you through some of the lesser known, but honestly more bewildering stories embedded in The Big Short, as well as where some of these people are now.

A lot of the information about the big short 'characters' is thanks to Michael Lewis' book 'The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine.'

I love the fact that you are the fanatic of this movie. There was a time when I used to watch it everyday to a dinner. And to this day I consider it as one of the greatest movies ever made.

The one main factor left out is the banks didn’t just let all of these high risk loans come in. The Gov said everyone’s getting a mortgage so make it work.

Wayback, I had a collague who had a colleague who bought a massive house in Sugarland TX and was making incredibly minuscule payments on a mortgage with an eventual balloon payment at 5 years. Of course, there was no way he could possibly make that balloon payment much less refi. He just wanted a fancy big house to show off, if even only for 5 years despite the consequences at 5 years. At 5 years to the day, he defaulted and declared bankruptcy. Talk about a deal with the devil. I could not believe this shady character with his history could have been loaned that kind of money. At the time, I was asking, how many millions of other fools are these clowns loaning ridiculous amounts of money too and what will be the eventual consequences for the economy when..."ballon go bust and ah fah down."

What i never hear people talk about when discussing the mortgage crisis is all the property. Someone ended up with all the houses or land. Not like it is worth nothing

Well done. Very informative and highly entertaining. What many are failing to include in their coverage of this subject is the involvement of the GSEs and the failed attempts to rein in FreddieMac and FannieMae.
As early as 2005, the impending doom was news. Everyone knew it was coming but few knew what to do.
The House Banking Committee refused to act and issued veiled threats to overseers who were presenting dire warnings.

It's impossible to make too many Big Short takes. I re-watch these time + again. Hoping to get even more from you over the years. You are not alone in your fascination with the movie. Don't see how one can love investing + not love the movie.
