as a retired airplane builder, one of my jobs was to drill a low tolerance 5/8 hole through a 6 inch stack up of titanium and steel, low, slow, and plenty of lube is the key

Hi, tightness in one spot as you rotate the shaft could indicate bend shaft rather than misaligned bearings. It is important that you check the shaft for straightness at this time. And yes it does happen more often than you think.. cheers Peter

A’picky’ little thing which you can ignore if you choose; the bearing nearest the propellor is the ‘cutless’ bearing, as it is intended to not wear the prop shaft.

Hey Matt. Nice video of the prop shaft & engine work. A tip (but really its too late now as you've already done it...), When drilling stainless, DON'T go slow! Well don't spin the drill too fast but DO keep good firm (even hard) pressure on the cutting edge. Stainless will work harden & chew up your drill bits fast if you drill gently & let the drill bit rub in the hole. So the trick is to always keep the drill cutting in the hole with good firm pressure. Your drill rpm looked good (not crazy fast). It took me 45 years before I learned this btw...
So well done.

You should put the shaft in Go ahead and tighten the lag screws, that way the shaft helps the alignment and ware would be much less on the bearings on both ends. Now as it is, the water side has the possibility of misalignment. But it’s your vessel and its well glued in now. God luck and happy splashing when it gets here.
Oh, I had to edit this part in but I think it’s important. Your vessel is beautiful. Nothing beats a wooden sailing vessel. You did good. I think you will defiantly enjoy it.
