I love how describing animals by their main weapons make it sounds like they are a rpg class

@serioussponge6416 11 months ago

Humans actually are really, really good at throwing things as a natural ability. Our arms are significantly shorter than our legs unlike most other primates due to that optimizing our ability to throw something like a rock or a spear farther, with more force, and greater accuracy than basically any other animal.

The exhaustiveness of these videos drives the point of how creative nature is. I'm always in disbelief of at least one animal, and then I'm hit with another.

small correction, boxer crabs are actually parasitic against anemone, the anemone are starved and kept artificially small so that they can be used by the boxer crabs. This is also why the anemone lose their colour provided by photosynthetic algae/bacteria. not exactly symbiotic.

I still find the idea of animals shedding their antlers yearly so bizarre

Vampire bats don't smell where the largest veins are. They sense the heat from them, similar to how a snake can detect the body heat of rats and mice. They're the only mammals that can do that.

The kangaroo that was punched seemed simultaneously confused and insulted.

i can think of only a few natural weapons that were missed: tentacles, snares (used by parasitic plants and carnivorous fungi), sound (i.e. parrots' ability to rupture eardrums with shouting alone), and heat (i.e. japanese honey bees cooking giant wasps alive through friction-induced heat).

36:01 Bro had to give us a demonstration 🩴💥

@retu3510 11 months ago

I tried to think of weapons you have not mentioned, only for you to list them one after another. ^^
But I still got some:
•bodywarmth used by some bees to kill hornets, •all carniverous plants
•shrikes using plant spines to spike prey
•parasitoid animals and plants
There a probably some crazy weapons like straight up absorbtion in single celled loop organisms.

8:22 I love how orcas are just known for being assholes to other animals for no reason😭

We have cartoonist Gary Larson to thank for naming the Thagomizer, which was previously nameless and now is accepted by paleontologists and even the Smithsonian.

This concept but with dinosaurs would be epic. Like "Every prehistoric weapon and defense explained"

Can we take a moment to appreciate corvids? They use tools, understand delayed gratification, and will even observe other members of their species, as if to determine their cause of death. One particular species has the problem-solving skills of a 7-year-old.
