.Also later on, there is a great callback scene where Jesse is the cook, and Badger gets on His nerves exactly the same way Jesse gets on Walter's nerves here.
The initial cook, we seem for what he is: careless, unmotivated, barely getting by. He barely follows safety protocols, is careless with measurements, and seems almost annoyed at Walt's pace as they meticulously check and measure again and again.
And then he sees the final product, which is head and shoulders above anything he has ever cooked personally in his entire career. All this made by a man who has never cooked up a batch of meth in his entire life. And he did it to perfection on the first go.
After that, you see Jesse's respect and dedication. Each cook, we see Jesse becoming more careful. Following the procedures, wearing the safety gear, even checking and mixing the product when Walt is resting. Taking cooking seriously. He understands that these silly "extra" steps are part of why their product is such high quality.
