In this project, the goal is to welcome you here at home so that together we can plant, chat, create, and make art here (as my grandmother used to say).

In this backyard, bigger than I ever dreamed of, I decided to do things differently than I do professionally. Here, I wanted to observe a garden being formed, starting from small, specific interventions. Here, I wanted to apply everything I've always believed in, but couldn't do in other people's backyards, simply because I wasn't there every day, touching and feeling every detail. I immersed myself in this place—and at the same time, in myself—and in this immersion, I discovered that my main references were already rooted long before I dreamed of being a landscape designer. They were created by observing the beauty of Grandma Mariquinha's garden, my great-grandmother, who had a beautiful little yellow house. To get to her house, we would enter through a low gate, and there was a walkway that led to a porch. In the garden, the plants were arranged randomly and with such harmony that they made my eyes sparkle. I spent hours playing there, picking at plants, poking, touching, feeling... without even realizing the magnitude of what I was creating in my head...

That said, you are always very welcome to Dani's Garden, a backyard filled with affection! Where we will do beautiful things together, from here and there.

Tell us in the comments everything you're doing! Let's do it together!

In this episode of Dani's Garden, you are invited to start creating a new area in the backyard! We'll make a substrate for replanting and creating new seedlings, we'll transfer plants from the hallway to this new corner, all while chatting!

Don't forget that your participation is the most important thing! Tell us if you've already started getting creative, inspired by what we've seen here!

INFORMATION ABOUT THE SUBSTRATE FOR FOLIAGE PLANTS:

3 parts composted soil
1 part worm castings
1 part perlite
1 part charred rice husk
0.5 part vermiculite

1. Composted soil (3 parts)

• Why use it: It is the base of the substrate, providing physical support and essential nutrients for plants.

• How it helps: Composted soil contains organic matter and important minerals, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which support healthy root and foliage growth.

2. Worm castings (1 part)

• Why use it: It is a natural fertilizer rich in nutrients.

• How it helps: It improves soil fertility, providing micronutrients such as calcium, magnesium, and iron, as well as organic matter that stimulates microbial activity. This increases water retention and promotes vigorous plant growth.

3. Perlite (1 part)

• Why use it: It's a lightweight, porous material that improves drainage.

• How it helps: Prevents waterlogging, preventing root rot. It also promotes aeration in the substrate, allowing roots to breathe better.

4. Carbonized rice husk (1 part)

• Why use it: It's a carbon-rich soil conditioner.

• How it helps: Improves substrate structure, increasing aeration and nutrient retention. It also helps control harmful fungi and bacteria in the soil, as it has disinfectant properties.

5. Vermiculite (0.5 part) or 1 part depending on the desired moisture level!

• Why use it: Helps retain water and nutrients.

• How it helps: Acts like a sponge, retaining moisture and gradually releasing it to the plants. This is especially useful for keeping plants hydrated for longer between waterings.

Why is this combination perfect?

• Balance: Fertilized soil provides a nutrient-rich base, while humus further enriches it.

• Drainage and aeration: Perlite and rice husks prevent compaction and ensure that roots have room to develop.

• Balanced hydration: Vermiculite regulates water retention, ensuring your plants receive what they need without the risk of excess.

This mixture will leave the substrate light, rich, and well-drained, ideal for foliage and other plants.
