Sometimes less is more.  The one-page menu is such a breath of fresh air.

Nice video! I used to live at Flagler Beach back in 2012-2014. Such a great little community. Lots of memories at the beach and going to Golden Lion Cafe and the Funky Pelican. It’s a nice spot to show off the 5D! Cheers!

Got to love the full magnesium alloy pro build on the 5d. And unlike Nikon dslr from that vintage whatever Canon put on their cameras hasn’t blown and gone horribly sticky. I love the 80s 28mm f2.8 its a great lens.

The SOOC colours are just the very best to my eye. I find I basically just adjust exposure when necessary and maybe a pinch in white balance but it is usually pretty close to perfect SOOC. I shot mirrorless, and these cameras are basically all I shoot now. I have 7 of them haha

It's worth it because the camera is like $150 toss on a nifty 50 and for 200$ you have a super easy entry into some great images. I own my 3rd... first 2 died... but the 3rd on I got ensure the SN starts with a 2... they were the later models and didn't have the mirror issue that the 0 SN started with. I also have a R5ii and sometimes I prefer taking the 5Dc

2 weeks ago I replaced my trusty 10D with a 5D mk.iii . I've not touched more modern things and have been pretty content with the 10D.
The 5D mk.III was the huge jump forward I was hoping it'd still be. got a pretty minty but used example for 4-bills. been loving it, this weekend at an 12h endurance race will be my first REAL outing with it.

a vibe

Good video on the 5D, thinking of getting one even though I have better cameras! Maybe do more videos about your film cameras as well, good luck with the channel, subscribed 👍

you gotta try the nikon d700

Canon 5D mk1: "How much we selling it for? -3000 dollars. How do we make sure the mirror stays on? -IDK, just couple dots of glue, who cares."

UK here. Picked up a couple of these from Japan for sub-£200 a few years back. Brilliant cameras in the right hands and I definitely agree with your comments about the colour rendition, even during editing the files have their own style that is very much different from my Mark IV.

However... I do very much miss the live view option for awkward angles and the resolution does mean that you must nail the composition exactly how you need it - there's no room for cropping in...which is why I wouldn't really recommend this camera for things like events, sports or just anywhere that you think you might need to reframe in post due to the hectic environment. On the flip side - the low resolution and the lower bit-rate mean your raw files are tiiiiny, usually just 12MB or less - a 128GB card in such a camera lasts FOREVER...and you don't need as much storage, which is nowdays inflated thanks to you-know-what... Lastly - the low light performance and the dynamic range leave a lot to be desired. If you take a night shot and need to push the image by 1 stop and lift the shadows - the noise is crazy and easily destroys the image in the dark areas...but then on the flip side - if you use the machine learning denoising in Camera RAW or Lightroom - that noise is easily removed, literally un-destroying your old files like magic - I swear you must try that! Regardless, highlight recovery is also poor, so you better nail that detail, if needed, before post.

Anyway, my recommendation nowdays for a banger EDC camera would be a Mark II instead. It has live view for awkward shots, a hell of a lot more resolution (21.1Mpix is plenty usable for any professional work) and uses the MUCH more ubiquitous LP-E6 batteries. Plus you can use Magic Lantern custom firmware on the Mark II, which brings the camera suddenly a lot closer to something modern, with a lot of new features.

The 5D Classic is a very "methodical" camera. Brutal if you don't nail the exposure and framing. It forces you to use the OVF at all times. The autofocus isn't that fast or accurate, so you can't rush. But that is also why it forces you into really a very pure form of photography and, in capable hands, can absolutely still produce beautiful work.

Back in the day people used these for weddings, magazine, advertising and all sorts of other professional work. If it produced quality work back then - it will do now too. It just takes more effort.

Look into Magic Lantern firmware addon. Adds some functionality, including focus peaking on image review, rather than live view, but with some adapted manual focus glass (nikon or c/y) and with the old school Canon color science, very filmesque.

You were right, medium is a word for format. And the median can be used for average, like salary.
Do you have any variable polarizing filters? Bring those blue skies out. Or ND filters?

I just got a canon mark iii still kick ass 💪🏾📸📸📸

I have the 5D and upgraded to the 6D years ago and noticed the cheaper feel.  I'm now considering the R6ii and can only imagine the feel of these new cameras.

Another tik toker camera bro with a lapel mic cliped to a something.  I'm out at :43.
