Finally someone points out the dude is tortured. It was literally the entire point of the show.

he up there with batman as a character that’s mastered the balance of swagger and suffering, they make the former look so good people forget the burden of the later

Appreciate the raw version of this character. Thomas Shelby is one of my favorite characters in media. But it’s cause of his flaws that make him so interesting and worth taking note of. But it’s important to remember those flaws are part of what make characters like this. So you can’t just leave that out.

Don't believe anyone has ever said "Be just like him"

I wanted to be like him and now I regret it, almost lost everything

This is great, and I know that Joss Wheedon isn't very popular lately...but one of his HALMARK writing tricks is basically laid out here. For instance, Wesley Windham Price...he saw Angel as brooding, cool, magnetic, attractive and he fell in love with the idea of being "That guy"...when we first see him in Angel he is calling himself a "Rogue demon slayer" Cosplaying at being "That guy". And he was mostly inept...he had been working on some skills but he was NOT that person. Then when he tried to save Angel's son, had his throat cut and even his best friend Angel tried to kill him in the hospital screaming at the top of his lungs "You're a dead man, Price!"...that was an incredibly low point for him. Almost dying, realizing how isolation like that can wreck you, you turn inward for strength, you are traumatized from the near death experience and the guilt of having let everyone down...it was at THAT moment in the next season that you see him actually become a bad ass in his own right. Not copying  Angel...but his OWN brand of being a dark brooding badass. But look what it COST him to become "That man"...people want the fancy suits, the cool part of it that shows when a camera is rolling but they are almost NEVER prepared for what it takes to actually BECOME that person and not simply PRETEND the cool parts...and I mean...pretend in a way that is pure cringe...this video hit that concept RIGHT on the head.

I wish, just once, someone would make a video on the complicity of his family. Aunt Polly actively supported Tommy's plans. Arthur actively supported everything Tommy did.  No one ever  asks how their behaviour pushed Tommy into making the choices he did. Arthur needed violence, stripped of being the leader of the gang Arthur became an alcoholic and a junkie.

Lizzie was the catalyst for the entire Changretta debacle but it's never truly addressed. Her  betrayal of the Shelby family after being ordered to not fraternize with Angel Changretta brought the deaths of John and Grace. John's vicious attack on Angel Changretta left Tommy helpless to do anything but go on the offensive because he knew the Changretta's weren't going to compromise after Angel had been blinded by John.

If you are paying close attention you realize it was never Tommy that needed or wanted a mansion/ businesses. He would have been happy with a nice horse farm and racing operation but Polly and Ada wanted to be the new bourgeoisie and Arthur was incapable of anything but directed violence . Not even a wife and baby can give Arthur any direction.

I think the loss of Grace is what destroyed Tommy.

14:00 this part is so freaking real

I dunno - someone with ptsd and trauma, like Tommy, I care about my family - spend my life for them. Except Tommy managed to use that trauma to his benefit. He suffered, but if you’re going to have to suffer, at least make something of it. He even created charities, orphanages, housing for those that need it and can’t afford the cost of the wealthy.

Very nice!!!

Subscribed. Easy

Great video. There are indeed some very valuable lessons, characteristics and traits that we can learn from Tommy Shelby but aspiring to be like him in every aspect of life is crazy and way too far. Pick up some of the good aspects of different people/characters but never entirely mould yourself around a specific individual.

Epic as always!

Great video brotha

When pressure comes it either makes or brakes you. But either way it brakes you in the end

You have to remember that people were still blowing up cars in the 1980's. the 1990's was like the peacetime of all peacetimes. For working class people the clinton days were actually chill as fk. Now it's all cameras and lawyers and social media but people are still kinda the same I guess.

You should make video on Michael scorefield from prison break & professor from money heist & Michael from godfather

PTSD is not just for soldiers and vets, fyi.

Great analysis of the character and somehow more enjoyable than actually watching the show lol

Nah the show ended with season 6. Tommy walks away from the war, Arthur is happy with Linda, duke takes over the gang and Ada is a politician. Perfect ending although what happens to Tommy should’ve been explored in a better manner. Immortal man is tolerable until the impossible act of Tommy killing Arthur. After all those poignant scenes between the too this is impossible. No way
