Can ReactOS Save This 22-Year-Old Trash PC?
What happens when you try to revive a 22-year-old trash PC from the Windows XP era?
This old Fujitsu FMV Deskpower CE70G7 is powered by a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 Northwood, just 512MB of DDR1 RAM, and an ancient IDE hard drive. By modern standards, this machine is painfully outdated—but that makes it the perfect test subject for something unusual: ReactOS.
ReactOS is a free and open-source operating system that looks like Windows, behaves like Windows, and is designed to run Windows software and drivers. But ReactOS is not Windows, and it is not Linux either. It was built from scratch with the goal of creating a Windows-compatible operating system.
In this video, I install ReactOS on this old Pentium 4 machine and explore what it can actually do. The experience is far from perfect, with bugs, driver problems, and compatibility issues along the way.
Still, ReactOS manages to bring this forgotten PC back to life with a classic Windows-style desktop, lightweight performance, working applications, internet access, and even a few retro games.
After nearly 30 years of development, ReactOS is still in Alpha, but experimenting with it on hardware this old turned out to be far more interesting than I expected.
So, can ReactOS really save this 22-year-old trash PC? Let’s find out.
