From El Valle, El Paso (El Chuco), San Anto, all the way to San Diego, San Jo, and Salinas; that Chicanismo runs deep. It’s cultura, familia, música, lucha, and orgullo all wrapped in one.
And man… Steve Jordan? In the background!! Puro maestro. El parche legendario. The way he makes that accordion breathe that’s not just music, that’s historia. Playing along to “Ran Kan Kan” (originally made famous by Tito Puente) with that conjunto flavor? That’s that border sound evolution. Saw him from Donna to Austin; puro Texas soul.
Shout out to the new wave too:
Joey Quinones – that smooth, brown-eyed soul revival.
Thee Sacred Souls – San Diego putting it down proper.
Durand Jones & The Indications – modern soul with that vintage corazón.
Deezy Hollow – repping that Chicano rap lane heavy.
That’s the beautiful part, our kids got dreams bigger than the stereotypes. Música, arte, business, tech, cultura; we’re not boxed in. Never were.
Puro orgullo. Puro corazón. Puro Pinche Parche.
Se sacaron La Dagger, bro!
Much love Razita.
