Tens and thousands of Australians are scammed out of millions every year. However, the exploitation doesn’t stop there - a shocking number of scammers are human trafficking victims, involuntarily held in prison-like compounds and violently punished if they don’t meet their targets.

In part 2 of her chat on I Catch Killers, detective turned romance scam investigator Kylee Dennis reveals the red flags that indicate you're talking to a scammer, how scammers use psychological manipulation to create a perfect storm of emotional and financial devastation, and the connection between romance scams, organised crime, and transnational criminal networks.

Let's add the elephant in the room....a handsome profile , often younger, messaging a below average in looks, older woman. It does not make any sense. That is obvious

I've had one oil rig worker and one 4-star general. I only go out with 5-star generals. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🤣

One of the first questions is “what are you doing for living” 😂

This should be played for all seniors. They seem to be the biggest targets. Because they are not savvy on scam technology and techniques.

I haven't just lost at least $200,00, I have lost just about everything else. My scammer is, in my opinion, a ' malignant ' narcissist. They enjoy torturing their victims, and are not satisfied untill the victim is completely destroyed, or dead.

I learned a lot here … I have a scammer calling while I’m watching this …

My scammer knew I was a victim of severe family violence, and had been ostracised for decades by my family. He knew I was really sick with a medication- induced brain- injury. He knew I was having financial difficulties. He stole at least $ 200,000 from me, when I was at my lowest ebb. The local corrupt Police have helped him to get away with this.

The people who have no sympathy for the scammed, are no different to the scammers. Neither type have any empathy or compassion. They do not care for the weak or vulnerable, for whatever reason,. It's not a crime to be vulnerable.

This is much more serious than unaffected people realise - until you find out it’s a loved one 😢 I found you too late

I live in an affluent suburb which is on my dating profile and I have had men on first dates who seem keen, straight up ask about my home ownership situation and then when they find out I rent somehow that second date doesn't happen. I think some men (or women) screen you on dates to see if you have anything worth scamming you for. Too late! My ex husband already got it all!

Interesting question — how do we police human nature?

People are always going to fall in love, or at least believe they have. Once we’re in that space, we tend to become more giving by nature. We want to help, support, and sometimes sacrifice for the people we care about. That’s part of what makes us human.

The challenge isn’t stopping people from loving; it’s helping people recognise when their generosity is being respected and when it’s being exploited.

The Cops at my local Police Station had PLENTY of time to deal with my scam complaint. I live in a quiet rural area. They just did NOT CARE !

It seems like this is a very huge system I'm not sure why we can't identify take action. All dating apps should advise about this... Never be vulnerable to anyone.

How can I find part 1?

@empoweredcoachingsince2014 4 months ago

I do think she could have fleshed out wrt scammer language which is very distinct. Maybe I see it because I am also from Africa. They will always start off by saying "How are you doing today". Then they will say "What are you seeking here". The word seeking is a dead give away. And so on and so forth.
