Do you think Steven Gerrard was right to call England’s Golden Generation 'egotistical losers' or was Wayne Rooney spot on in saying they simply 'didn't manage to get over the line'? Who do you agree with more?

Kae said what I was thinking... that play by Wayne at DC United when he ran back and then nailed a 50 yard pass back forward for the assist still amazes me to this day. 🔥

When Gerrard said it was "ego's", he was refering to the club rivalrys within the camp and the inability to drop those differences in order to start gelling. He also said he'd start feeling they were just starting to all gel just when the tournament was over too.

Fair play to all to them for not pointing out it was all Fergies doing, he created that clique in the England team, do you guys know the United players would get flown back to Manchester and everyone else travelled home from there, they were put on a pedestal and it made others in the squad resent them and its a shame, was the best group of players we ever had.

Is there anyway ai can mute every time the other two talk

What’s surprising is that they never realised that they will only be classed as legends in the long run, if they won a major tournament with England.

Gerrard confirmed what a lot of fans suspected at the time. They were putting themselves and their own careers in front of winning things for England - it went above simply club rivalries.

Anyone who wants to understand the issue... There's a perfect scene in 'The Miracle' where the coach asks them who they play for. The players eventually get that it's not club and country when you're at a tournament. It's country only and name on the front means a lot more than thr players name on the back. Something Elngand players didn't get at the time. Sad..

Southgate was on to something about fear too. I've often hear PL players talking about going to battle/war with teammates when the sad truth is that they were scared just on a football pitch under no danger. We need a football culture that grows men instead of boys and I'd interpret Gerrards comments as showing that they may have physically been men, but mentally and certainly the emotional IQ required, they were miles off and that's why they never even got close.

I could listen for days why our Golden Generation didn't succeed. It's a topic that needs exploring because I truly think when it comes to becoming successful there is a straight line that can take you from A to B and that's why I believe Rooney's and Ronaldo's children would make very good football players as they are learning from the best. How the FA, the England managers, the England captains and players of the Golden Generation didn't make it work is a massive shame and these wrongs need to be put right going forwards.

If only we had an imaginative and strong manager who had the intelligence of Del Bosque of Spain who packed his talent all together in midfield, cause that’s where the talent was. They had Busquets as an anchor and we should have used Carrick in that role. Then Spain had Xavi, Ineista, Alonso, Silva and Fabregas all taking turns to play as either a Number 9 or 10.
We could have had Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Rooney and either Joe Cole or Beckham doing exactly the same blueprint as Spain. Rooney could easily have played as either a Number 9 or 10, as and when required. Both Gerrard and Lampard would love driving forward in that Number 10 position to be an attacking threat. A good manager should have got the best out of both of them by letting them rotate in that role. But both Sven and Capello would pick and choose who plays where without any rotation and not getting the best of the talent they had in their hands.
Hindsight is of course a great thing but we never had the best England manager to get the best out of that Golden Generation.
