A lecture on one of the wonders of the ancient world: the Ishtar Gates of the great city of Babylon, currently housed in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.

This is one of the eight monumental gates of Babylon's inner wall, through which one accessed the great temple of Marduk. It was built around 575 BCE, during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar II. Its name comes from the goddess Ishtar, to whom it was dedicated.

The lecture was given by Eva Tobalina, Professor of Ancient History, at the Ignacio Aldecoa Cultural Center in Vitoria-Gasteiz, on October 9, 2019, as part of a series dedicated to Berlin and its museums. The lecture explored the gates' history, artistic grandeur, historical context, the story of their discovery, how they arrived in Berlin, and other fascinating aspects.
