The worse part of heart surgery was waking up with a breathing tube in. Its not even close.

I feel like Dr. Mark was fantastic in my surgery. What really impressed me was the night before he came in talked to me and my wife and prayed for us as well as with the team he was going to be working with.

I honestly thought the cardiac rehab was not for me. I went 5-times on Wednesday & Fridays and all I did was 10-minutes on the stationary bike & 10-minutes on a treadmill. I started walking at home everyday and thought that was more beneficial for me.

Im going for a triple bypass  and will now be less frightened of the garden hose down my throat. Knowing more about it and not to panic is a big thing. Thank you.

I have no memory of waking up with the tube or them taking it out. I’m thankful I don’t remember!

70 y.o. and it hurts like he'll coughing. I had Quad bypass surgery and he ain't lying. I'm 3 months into it and I'm ok. I'm also diabetic another wrench in the works.

I'm 58 and live in Seattle.   I just had open heart, triple bypass surgery.  My angiogram two Wednesdays ago showed a dire emergency admittance to Swedish Cherry Hill Hospital.  I'm 7 days post, at home and I am just trying to get comfortable with the incision tightness, bone, muscle pain, etc.  Your discussion is so relevant because I noticed guys in their 40's and up to 70's having this surgery.  It's a topic to bring awareness and save lives that have so much more to give.  I felt as a Father, Brother, Son and Husband, I had so many folks relying on me.  I'm blessed and most fortunate.   I liked and subscribed immediately.  Cheers Mate!

In the morning at 7:30 for me!  At peace yet wanting to get it over with.  I'm like Bruce and know i'm in God's hands with a good surgeon.  Thankfully, spending the night at home.

Facing the prospect of this, this is just what I was looking for, another person’s experience to see what I might be in for. Good to see how long he has been able to live afterwards.  I’m 81, not real strong but not frail, can still walk.  However it’s a lot to think about when there are hundreds of other things I’d rather think about.  Have high regard for doctors involved .  Have had one “plumber” dismiss me summarily because I’ve not been taking statin. Thank you so much for making this video❤.  Hopefully others will find it who need it in the future.

Dr Pool , I took your recommendation and choosing Dr White for robotic surgery since you are not working in my area anymore.  So I had the aortic valve replaced with a cow valve.  Surgery was done at Baylor Scott & White in Plano Tx   February 16 th last year.  You said you had trained Dr White .  So yes he did an excellent job.  I am 75 years and back to doing life fully with only a tiny incision mark by my right breast—- barely visible.  On no prescription medication and grateful for your advice.

I am 56 and 8 months ago I had the Ross procedure with an aneurysm on my aorta fixed and I can honestly say the worst part of my 8 days in ICU was the 20 lb of fluid that I gained. And yes the garden hose in your throat definitely sucks

Such a good podcast. Really helping hearing from a patient about his experience. Also included very good advice about being your own advocate and having a doctor who will listen to you and work with you to find the best options for you personally.

Horrible video. So glad I’m looking at this post surgery. This would have frightened me with the mention of the breathing tube. I remember nothing of that. And the medics should check the patients admin form to see if the patient is religious. It would have scared me if the surgeon suggested a prayer. I assume the surgeon and the team are thoroughly trained. I suggest this video is removed.
